We recently connected with Abi Kelley and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Abi, thanks for joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?
I do manage my own social media platforms for my business. I made the choice to manage this on my own because it gives me the creative freedom to post anything I love and not have to run it by anyone else! Although running your own social media platforms is a lot of work, it can be really fun and rewarding to come up with your own creative ideas to share with the internet. If I could give a tip of advice to another business owner managing their social media platforms, It would be to plan out the week ahead of time. For example, each week I sit down and schedule all my posts for the week. I try to post at least four times a week, between Monday- Friday. I find these times to get a higher audience rather than on the weekends. Luckily instagram gives you the option to plan your post out ahead of time and then they will automatically post at the time and date selected. I share all my posts to my business facebook page with just a click of a button. For instagram reels I make them on TikTok and then save the video before sharing so it doesn’t have the “TikTok” logo on it and upload it to instagram. Both of these are very easy processes and it knocks two birds out with one stone! Hope this can help any of my fellow business owners because I know it can be very overwhelming to manage this all!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi there! I’m Abi Kelley, the face behind the kreations! I started my first business as a reseller back in 2022, because I loved thrifting for stylish and unique items. After many early mornings searching through “the bins”, I finally had the idea to stop thrifting, and start kreating! While planning my wedding in 2023, I had so many cute ideas that I could DIY, but not the tools to do so. One lucky day, my husband surprised me with a Cricut, and I was finally able to create my own fun, custom items! My family and friends would always tell me I needed to start an etsy shop, and for the longest time I thought about the idea of doing so. To start 2024, I finally decided, why not share everything I love kreating with the rest of the world? So here we are!
Working for yourself can require a lot of self discipline. At the beginning of each week I like to write out what I need to accomplish for each day of my work week. I offer a variety of different handmade clothing items and also take kustom orders making my customers’ vision come to life! I am a big fan of simplistic fonts with a 3D look! Problem solving I do for my customers is helping them to create an idea and make their vision come to life! I am most proud of the following I have grown over such a short period of time and my collaborations I have done with other creators! I would love my potential clients to know that I am always here to help them with kustom clothing and making their visions come to life. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing my clients love their items I have made for them. :)
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Back in 2022 I had started my first business as a thrifting reseller for stylish and unique items for my clients. I would spend many early mornings digging through the goodwill bins to see what I could source. Sourcing started to become a little unpredictable which is what lead me to this route of making my own kreations. I knew if I went this route I would more than likely be more successful because I could decide what I put out into the world for my clients. I am so happy I made the decision to start kreating!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
