Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sophia Fagan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sophia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My senior film in highschool called “This Party Sucks” was very meaningful to me. I had come up with another idea at first, but then I formed it into what it is now. I had planned everything myself for the film and with the help of some of my friends we made it come to fruitIon. This film was a story I really wanted to tell because I could relate to the main character very much. I wanted to go against the traditional narrative style of short films and make it kind of experimental. Which I feel like i pulled off. This film taught me I could really make anything I wanted and have my style come through.

Sophia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Sophia Hope Fagan I am a filmmaker, photographer, and creative director. I feel like my style incorporates many different genres and looks that blend in a cohesive way. I’ve been growing my style for all of my creative life and it is ever-evolving, but I feel like now I am at a comfortable place with it. My art is a complete reflection of how I imagine people, settings, and situations. I love coming up with a concept for a video or photo and executing it the way I perceive it. That is something I am most proud of and what sets me apart.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I just wish I would have collaborated with other artists earlier. Really only within the last few years I reached out to other artists. I feel like other artists are some of the best resources available to artists. I have learned so many things from my fellow artist friends. I’ve learned technical things, as well as opportunities to apply to, etc. I feel like inviting creatives to collaborate with you adds so much to your project that you might not have ever thought about.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing is seeing your vision come to life. Maybe that is a basic answer, but I feel like especially for film, it’s very rewarding because it takes so many steps, people, and coordination to get to the finished product. As for photo, it’s so cool to look at my inspiration photos and items and then see how I interpret that with my own style.
