We recently connected with Tiffoni Moss and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffoni, thanks for joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I am an army brat so I grew up moving all over the place and constantly starting over but I had a village around me. Every place I’ve seen my village go, they’ve established a bond with the community in some form or fashion. Whether they were volunteering to teach kids baseball, mentoring kids, or even hosting poetry events, I saw so many examples of people who did not want to live passively. They always took action to make things better around them. I’ve learned from their example and feel that I am inspired to the do the same based on what I grew up watching.
I’m so thankful for my parents, aunts, uncles, and family friends for their bravery in blazing their own trails in new environments. I’m happy they have left their mark so I can follow in their footsteps.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My business offers handcrafted candles with clean ingredients along with massage therapy services for those who love nature’s medicine. From scented aromatherapy candles to body butter candles that you can use to moisturize your skin or use for massage, we are taking stress management to a natural and luxurious level. We offer massage classes as well!

Have you ever had to pivot?
When I graduated from the University of Houston with my undergraduate degree, I thought I would immediately get a job in marketing then earn my master’s degree in Public Health.
I was applying for all sorts of jobs just to make some sort of income and began working at a steakhouse as a server. While I worked there, I studied for my teaching certification. I left the steakhouse and became a full-time teacher in Houston which then led me to teaching in China where I founded Fon Candles.
It feels like everything has led up to this moment because living in China opened up a new world that allowed me to get to know myself and what really makes me happy. Living in China gave me the opportunity to easily travel to Indonesia where I first started my massage therapy training.
Here I am now, 7 years later working full-time for Fon Massage & Wellness, offering unique experiences through candles and massage therapy.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn the idea that fear means to stop. Fear can be an inhibitor of progress while also being a catalyst for change. I used to let fear stop me from seeking new opportunities because I didn’t believe in myself. I didn’t understand my purpose and that in my purpose, there is power. Now, I let fear push me forward because I am more afraid of having regrets of not trying at all!
