We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tebby Burrows a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tebby, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on to date is actually an affirmation card deck for kids called My True Reflection, that’s geared towards children of color.
I’ve always had a strong desire to tell stories that matter, and to me, nothing matters most than the stories we tell ourselves every day. What we tell ourselves determines our beliefs and our beliefs shape our future. During the pandemic, I was able to actually sit down and write out 30 of the most important things, in my mind, that young boys and girls need to hear daily to give them confidence and courage in this world.
I think the greater the adversities you’re up against in life, the more you need to be rooted in a foundation of love, courage, and compassion for yourself and others.
Writing and designing these cards was definitely a labor of love that I hope parents and children can benefit from!

Tebby, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Tebby, and I’ve been an artist and a storyteller all my life. Growing up in The Bahamas surrounded by music, art, and theatre, I always gravitated toward anything creative, I feel like it’s in my DNA. When I was 12 years old, I loved Taylor Swift (still do!). I asked my mom to buy me a guitar and she did. I started taking lessons and once I knew a few chords, I started writing my own songs.
In 2018 I became the first contestant to win on NBC Songland, where I had the privilege of working with the amazingly talented Shane McAnally. We worked together to recreate one of my original songs, and John Legend selected it as his next single.
Since then, I’ve had writing sessions in LA, Nashville, NY, and London with so many amazing songwriters, artists, and producers. I also recorded and released my first EP ‘Space & Time.’
In addition to working a full-time job, I’m still songwriting, taking acting classes, and working on my first audio drama script.
I’m excited to see what the future holds. Life is about shooting for the stars, doing what you love, and using your gifts and talents to make the world a better place.
I fully intend to do that!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to tell stories that matter. Stories that matter to me, to the world. Stories that move people, that highlight our shared human experience.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of creating is all of the amazing projects I get to work on with so many talented people. I love creative collaboration. I love meeting new people. I love going into a studio and creating something magical with producers and writers. I love hearing about other people’s journeys.
