We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordan Duvall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordan below.
Hi Jordan , thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I went to school for Design and Photography and have spent the last 30 years honing my craft by working with agencies, studios, networks, and entrepreneurs. I could have sped up the learning process by getting coaches earlier on to understand my role in creating my life results. The skills that have been the most essential throughout my career have been self-awareness, leadership, and resilience.

Jordan , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m originally from Los Angeles and at one point my entire family was in the entertainment industry so it was a natural progression for me to apply my design and photography skills to creating movie posters. I interned at Universal Pictures in college and after graduation, my old boss reached out and asked if I wanted to join the new print department as the Jr. Designer for one of the top agencies in LA. Of course, I said yes. That began a five-year stint at that agency where I learned all about concepting, photography, design, art direction, and Photoshop. I then went on to work with private clients such as Ben Still and Eddie Murphy and worked in-house at major studios and networks before starting Ignite Your Soul Brand in 2017.
As the go-to Creative Director and Brand Strategist at Ignite Your Soul Brand I weave together subconscious storytelling, the energetics of color and brand strategy to help women-led personal brands create dynamic visual brands that get them noticed. I also certify Brand Photographers in my signature method so they can elevate their work to attract premium clients consistently at premium prices.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest things I had to unlearn was having an employee mindset. When you work for yourself you have to think outside the box and confront your edges everyday. Your success is deeply tied to your beliefs about what is possible for you in your life and it takes a lot of reprogramming to trust the process and take risks.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
As a creative, your portfolio is critical to your success. I wish I had a mentor earlier on to help me strategize where to put my energy with the work that I was doing at agencies and on the side so that I was always building towards my bigger vision of the kind of projects, people and companies I wanted to be working with. I now work with photographers to develop their portfolio so that they can elevate their work to attract premium clients consistently at premium prices.
