We were lucky to catch up with Seven Dunbar recently and have shared our conversation below.
Seven , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I started working in recording studios around 1996. I was fortunate enough during my career to work in a variety of different facilities , Large Studios, Small Studios, Studios geared toward different types off music, as well as Film and corporate clients. I gained a lot of knowledge and insight on what it takes to run a recording studio, but also realized that is a constantly changing industry. Something that worked 5 years ago may not work today. One example would be large mixing boards. I worked in a studio that had 5 large consoles that cost a million dollars each when they were new, we had a power bill of well over $5k a month just to run them, now we have kids making hit records on iPads in their bedrooms. One of the most important things in this industry, and many others is the ability to recognize change, and adapt with new industry trends.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
i started off working at various studios in South Florida as a teenager and decided i wanted to make a career out of being an Audio Engineer. I went to school at Full Sail in Winter Park Florida and got a degree in Recording Arts and then worked freelance at various studios around Florida. I had an office for about a year at Studio Center in Miami, and then i spent 4 years at KDS Studios in Orlando Florida before moving to Los Angeles. In LA i worked in a private studio and had the privilege of working with a lot of famous clients. I worked hard on those projects and was able to acquire some RIAA Platinum certifications from it. When covid hit, like many people in Los Angeles… I left and came to Las Vegas. I decided to take what skills i had learned running studios for other people and open my own facility just off the las vegas strip
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think ive been able to build my reputation by setting high standards for myself and those that i work with.I have built a reputation of not only being reliable but able to deliver above and beyond my clients expectations.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
the best source of clients for me has been word of mouth. I dont really advertise. id say almost all of my clients have come from clients recommending their friends to me, or people i have worked with on projects recommending me.
