We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jill Alyn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jill below.
Jill, appreciate you joining us today. So, what do you think about family businesses? Would you want your children or other family members to one day join your business?
We believe in small, independently owned, family business. When you shop small, you support hundreds of other small businesses and can feel great about how far your dollar is actually reaching.
Small businesses bring the flavor to our cityscapes and neighborhoods. They are the meeting places of friends and community.
When folks stop in our shop, they are remembered, they feel welcomed. If they are newcomers, names will be exchanged and the experience will be personal and memorable.
Society continues to rapidly change. People have an immediacy to get what they want, when they want it and in most instances. the internet can deliver just that. What the web world can’t offer is the tactile, the story, the human piece. We will always favor and deliver a customized, personalized and meaningful shopping or invitation design experience.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For 16 years we have been supporting American made, minority made, eco conscious handmade greeting cards, paper products, and an abundant selection of gifts. All of products are either heartfelt or hilarious. We are a small and mighty team of creatives, ranging from a Graphic Design expert, or as we say, a Pixel Perfectionist, to a long a self professed paper lover, who plainly always wanted to work in the greeting card industry. We love cards, paper, ink, text, fonts, the art of letterpress and really good design. We all collected cards, long before wordshop.
What sets wordshop apart from the others is the commitment to support brands with the same values as we share. Even our printing partners are small business owned, so we can be sure we are also supporting the same boutique values we share.
We are also known for our custom design in invitations, stationery and anything else you can think to print. We are masters of etiquette and composition.. Our approach is personable, customized and treat everyone who walks through our door like an old friend, or a new really good friend!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
WORD of MOUTH. Positivity, kindness, inclusivity are all contagious. When people learn who we are and what we sell, they feel excited, and connected to something bigger, They tell their friends, that they just found the coolest Diwali card, or a brown/ black girl on a product, or “nice jewish boy” socks. We don’t often see products that represent all of us. We all really should.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Our long time Manager and Lead Designer, righteously heads all of our socials. The key, that I have learned from her is humor.
Make ’em laugh. Keep it real, real. When people can relate, and connect, that is a win. When people have a laugh, after all the nonsense in their day, that’s a win.
Our advice, is find your voice. Highlight what we call real, raw and relatable.
