We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Geechie Poet a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Geechie , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
After years & years of writing in my composition notebooks, I decided it was time to get my poetry published. It was and still is fun for me, so why not pursue my passion and make a career out of it. Personally I like my time so that I can spend my time how I like to. Realistically thats where people get lost at its not about the money its about the freedom that comes with the money. Me noticing this young made me realize that sacrificing in my 20’s could make me a huge success. If it didn’t work out I’d have to figure out life again. However it was no other option for me but to turn my dreams into reality.
Geechie , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Da Geechie Poet is a thirty-one year old Poet from Charleston, South Carolina. He has 3 published books as well. However when it all started with some simple girl problems. Once I took a seat in study hall and began writing on a loose piece of paper, a close friend was sitting next to me and took the paper. After reading he encouraged me to keep conquering this craft because not too many people are good at it.
After having a number of composition notebooks filled with so much potential I told myself it was time.
Once I accepted my talent I published my work with no looking behind. It’s been a long journey of perfection and I still have so far to go. However the closest people in my life encourage me to keep going and that’s exactly what I’ve done the past fourteen years. My mission is to touch hearts no matter the age, we can all relate in some way. Welcome to the lyrical flight and hope you enjoy your ride.
My books and merchandise can be purchased on my website. Geechiepoet.com, I can also be booked for events as well as be contacted about customized poetry as well.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The ability to be able to reach ages of almost minds in the room is major for me. With words it’s all about painting the visual mental picture at times that can be difficult. So it’s always a rewarding feeling to get compliments from the crowd after performing. Another rewarding aspect is that no matter the topic upon majority of adults they’re intrigued by the words and there probably stuck on the brain for a few minutes. That’s good because it’s still being taken in and digested.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Whenever you’re reaching for the star’s and aming for the moon, growth is a challenge. When things, people, individuals who no longer serve a purpose to you must be let go. This can be difficult because of what or who it may be. However when we hold on to things or individuals that no longer serve a purpose delays our progress. Learning that you are your biggest enemy at time. That’s why it’s important to remember phrases like ” birds of a feather flock together” or “you will become what you hang around.” When you no longer have a desire or purpose for anything let it go. If it’s meant to be it’ll come back to you.
