We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keshia Langston a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Keshia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
I wrote my first book in 2015. I had the story in my head and the message I wanted to send. Everything else I made up as I went. The characters, the setting, plot twist, all of that I made up as I wrote.
I struggled with making it all come together how I envisioned it. I kept trying to figure out how to make it all flow and make sense. Then I looked at each chapter as a different scene. Once I did that, everything started to come together. My idea I had in my head came to life.
After self publishing my first book, my career started to change. Seeing readers obsessed with characters I created, invested in the story, and the message of the story was unbelievable to me. Watching readers have an intense debate over who was right, who was wrong, and what their predictions of the outcome was or should be was a feeling I can’t describe.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Writing has been my passion since I was 13 years old. It was always something I knew I wanted to do. Writing comes natural to me. I could have a small vision or scene in my head. I would build a whole story around that small vision or scene. My books brings life, laughter, healing, and relief to readers. Things they might be afraid to share, speak of, and relive on their own. They can share, speak of it, and relive it in my books. They can experience their wildest fantasies and live curiously through characters and scenarios I create.
What sets me apart from others is my passion and my creativity abilities. I get asked so many times, “Keshia how do you come up with this stuff”. I don’t plan out anything that I write. I follow wherever my creativity takes me. It always leads me where I need to be.
I have so many things in my career that I am proud of. The most thing I am proud of is submitting my book to be developed by Tubi. That was a major step and opportunity for my career. I always wanted to take my passion for writing past book writing. I want to create movies and tv series. By submitting one of my best sellers to a thriving and successful streaming platform will open so many doors for my career.
Since 2015 I have written 16 books, 1 audiobook, and a script. I am beyond blessed and grateful for all accolades I have accomplished in my career thus far.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy i’ve had on growing my clientele is promoting my work at all times. I sold my books for a dollar a piece to help raise money for my daughter’s girls scout troop. It was the perfect way to get my work out to readers. By doing that, I helped raised over $300 for my daughter’s girls scout troop and I gained a lot of fans in the process.
I will give random people a book to grow my clientele outside of my social media fan base. I gave a worker at a fast food place one of my best sellers. I knew nothing about this person, didn’t know if they would be interested or offended by my book. Days had passed and I saw that person. They loved my book! When I went back to the same place to get lunch, everybody there knew me because of how highly that person spoke of my book. It was one of the greatest feelings I could have experience in my career.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me is finding people who don’t read books and have them become a fan of my books. I have met a lot of people that don’t read books. It then becomes my mission to make them want to read my books. When I accomplish that, I know my gift and passion for writing can touch and change anyone.
