Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jaydin Geer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jaydin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I have not been able to earn a full-time living from my creative work!
Jaydin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a child I have always been an entertainer. There has never been a time in my life where I wasn’t doing something physically with my hands in order to create something. I actually got into music by “accident”. I initially had discipline in illustration/animation as a child, but as I got into high school I learned that there we’re no animation courses being offered. This was due to me getting a public education so obviously we’re going to have minimal funding in the arts. In middle school I would make little videos on my flip-phones and iPod touch’s and learned how to edit through YouTube and Google so there in turn I began making user generated content. So by the time I got into high school I had my hand in just about everything. I was put in a position where I had to take traditional art and drama my freshman year, I stuck with drama all four years, and started playing with Apple’s Garageband at 14. The rest is history! I loved making music so much I ended up attending the Musician’s Institute of Hollywood in 2018 and obtained my certificate in Independent Artistry. Between high school and Musician’s Institute, I’ve released multiple projects, singles, albums and music videos all produced, composed, directed, and edited by me! I’m an artistic swiss army knife and it started by accident! The story is a lot longer than what I’ve shared, but a journey nonetheless!
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFT’s were a mistake and I will wholeheartedly stand on that. We’re slowly starting to lose control of things in our physical realm. No one owns anything and we entrust a bunch of corporations to maintain media and information on a server/cloud?
NFT’s while in theory seem cool, make absolutely no sense to me. I tried to make my own in like 2020 because I was unfamiliar with them. They serve no purpose.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
As a Man Thinketh by James Allen is one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s super short, but essentially it talks about how your mind makes up your reality. It dives into the (and I use the loosely) science of how manifestation works. Now, I take everything with a grain of salt, but the teachings helped me tremendously and I still actively use his philosophies and teachings dear to my heart. I’ll say a lot of my experience (and his) is absolutely anecdotal so once again, you do not have to believe in his writings, but that book has pushed me to continue to create and follow my dreams!
