We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kav Molavi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kav , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Just doing whatever I could in music. Promoting, under study to other djs, old school flyers. Music store. Throwing parties and really getting a team around you

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started DJing around 13 years old. My brother was a dj and left home for university and I started to sneak in his room and practice. It gave me a lifeline and confidence that. I didn’t have. I tried getting into broadcasting as well and was rejected several time.
Currently I am an on air host in a major market and a music director in 2 major markets and just finished touring with ice cube.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Covid hit hard for entertainment and I thought that was the end of my career. Luckily when things got better the DJ became more valuable. Now I appreciate every gig even more

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It’s always been an outlet and passion. To see people dance to feed off what to play next to test the limits.
