We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brooklynn Migura . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brooklynn below.
Brooklynn , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
To start off, I never in a million years thought I would be taking my passion into a full time “job.” I quote that only because it doesn’t feel like a job to me. It’s something I truly enjoy, that I love to do and I put my whole heart and soul into it. I have always loved taking photos ever since I was a little girl. I would always have a throw away camera, a Polaroid camera, & soon a cheap digital camera in hand thruout the years. Once I hit high school I started journalism and it was then that I knew this is something I would do forever. My journalism teacher told me time and time again that I had a natural eye for being a photographer and she helped mold me into who I am today as a professional photographer.
I started 13 years ago when I was a junior in high school taking photos for clients and haven’t stopped since. I’ve built up my clientele over the years, even going to college getting my masters in something completely different than photography, I never gave up on my passion. You have to just start from the ground up, improving your skills and learning as you go wether that’s taking classes, watching videos, etc. advertising specials and doing give aways.
I stopped working full time for what I went to college for before I had my little one and started doing my photography head on full time and haven’t looked back. This is what I love to do. Freezing frame time with a photo that people can look back on and still smell, see, hear what is going on in that moment.
Brooklynn , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a local east Texas photographer. I capture anything and everything. Wether it be seniors, newborns, maternity, branding, family, births, birthdays, weddings, list goes on. I am so thankful to be asked to take so many precious peoples life stories. One of the many blessings my camera has given me are all of the wonderful friendships I have made along the way. Growing with families is truly an honor that I do not take for granted. I like to think my photography style is warm and filled with laughter and moments that capture that persons life. My clients often tell me how I am sunshine to them, bubbly, laughter is contagious, positive and humbling. That’s my raw self. Life is too short to be anything other than a happy person and it’s so important to make others feel the same. I always do my best to meet their expectations of what a photo brings. I put my heart into not only posing & taking the photo, but the editing that goes into making the photo picture perfect for my client.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Hands down the most rewarding part of my job is when my client gets their full gallery and it exceeds every expectation they foresaw. Not only am I putting my time & effort into these photoshoots/editing, but the client is putting their trust and money into you. When they see that their photographer(me) makes their vision come to life in a photo that they get to look back on for years to come is what makes my career rewarding.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Honestly just working hard and never giving up. Word of mouth! Work hard now, play later.
