We recently connected with Marsalis Pendleton and have shared our conversation below.
Marsalis, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Maddys Kitchen is named after my biggest blessing, “My Daughter.” She motivates me to be the best version of myself because before her, I was in a dark place. My mission is to motivate others to be the best version of themselves and to never give up no matter how hard life may get.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Maddy’s Kitchen is a diverse food truck specializing in conch fritters, conch balls and fried conch using locally sourced ingredients with a focus on outstanding cuisine. The menu offers a unique blend of flavors from different cultures, appealing to everyday foodies. I am most proud of the positive feedback that my customers always convey. Customer service is what separates my business from others. We go above and behind to ensure that customers are satisfied each time they visit us.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Maddys Kitchen was a side hustle initially. I began making conch fritters in the kitchen on the weekend, while I drove trucks full time during the week. My family saw the passion and drive I had, and they also saw how much the community supported me. They encouraged and motivated me to go further in the food industry. When I became a full-time entrepreneur, more opportunities came my way and now I’m able to spend more time with my family.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to realize that challenges will occur, some major and some minor in life. Ultimately, you have to maintain a positive mindset and understand that difficulties/hardships shape who we are. I am grateful for the obstacles because they taught me how to appreciate the good things that happen in my life.
