Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joshua Jackson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Joshua thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s go back in time to when you were an intern or apprentice – what’s an interesting story you can share from that stage of your career?
When I was a undergraduate student at the University of north Texas I built confidence as a personal trainer I was the strongest in my life working two 3 positions already before graduation. One of the most important jobs I had as a contractor was in senior living it was there I met one of my best friends and mentors I had a large base of knowledge but I was very ridged on how I directed people. I had to learn to train individuals by meeting them in the middle some of the clients I was working with were above the age of 90 years old. Meaning I had to be more of a mentor instead of a hardcore strength coach it was here where I got to learn how to created my own group classes incorporated chair yoga and small movements where it worked for older individuals. My mentor Kelli Gruzins really showed me how to use spirit to touch individuals by constantly preaching Christianity in me and I used it to help others spiritually. I had other jobs after this contract ended but those skills really helped me connect with all age groups and how to not be so rigid.
Joshua , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Fitness is my second career I was a athlete growing up I played h.s basketball in which I was captain of my team as a senior also was a center fielder in baseball , joined the United States Airforce worked as a aircraft maintainer for 6 years 2009-2015 after high-school im from akron Ohio. I moved to Texas in 2015 after the service pursued my education in kinesiology exercise science, certification in personal training Ace and recently became a certified yoga instructor. I’ve been working on the fitness industry for 5 years currently I’ve worked with lost age groups ranging from ages 9-95. Most types of clients from athletes, seniors and most of my experience is with general population those who just want to shed off weight to those who have had injuries and are cleared from physical therapy. My career goals are to continue personal trainer and build up my yoga skills I have a deep passion for yoga and running also ! My number one goal is to help people that’s my life mission and to teach ! You can view a lot of my work on my website JacksonEliteFitnesss.com and my new yoga website Primitiveaura.com and also view guided meditations and full length classes for free on my YouTube page primitive auras.
Can you open up about how you managed the initial funding?
I started from nothing but my iPhone I was ending a marriage and I had not a lot but my phone so I started posting my workouts on Instagram in 2017 @jacksonelitefitnesss I rarely post on that page anymore because I find it more important to teach in person the feeling from connecting is like no other. Financially I worked at many small jobs while in school my first job out the military was at a gelato shop serving frozen gellato, I also sold memberships at a gym and worked at a sandwich shop for a little bit until I got my first job in fitness as a strength conditioning coach for select swimming and simultaneously working as a personal trainer at the university of north Texas. I really believe on having like zero overhead I’m currently saving to have a private space to do yoga practice but I’m content with visiting you or renting out someone’s space to train.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I define would coaching is what I’m made to do. Teach connect and learn everyday im a yogi ! I respect the practice and this is what my alignment is telling me to do.
