We were lucky to catch up with Gloria Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gloria , thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
The fashion industry is filled with all different personalities.
But a common thread that I hear when it comes to some not standing on businesses, it’s the industry.
Part of my calling is to bring love and light back to Fashion .
With authenticity and transparency, when working with artists and their teams.
Gloria , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My mother likes to take a lot of the credit for suggesting I become a stylist .
I have always loved, and been intrigued by fashion.
Growing up, I was heavily bullied all through elementary in high school, but fashion was the one thing that no one could ever take from me.
And someways I would say fashion was a thing that saved me and help me find my individuality .
When working with my clients. It’s very important to me , every person is an individual.
And I make sure to give each talent their own personalized look and make sure it’s in line with their vision .
I always go back to the moment where my mom suggested I try styling, I’m so forever grateful to her and I hope she’s proud.
Have you ever had to pivot?
After graduating from the fashion Institute of technology, I became a fashion illustrator.
I was a new mother and was working long hours, so I had to make a pivot.
Again my mother made a suggestion, since I was great at drawing, to think about becoming a make up artist.
Becoming a make up artist, and being a freelancer, enabled me to provide for my daughter, and still make time as a new mom to spend with my child.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Being authentically me, doing what I do.
I am very honest with my clients, I don’t believe in lying, but offering transparency.
Making sure they are treated like a person rather than a commodity .
