We recently connected with Becky DeWitt and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Becky, thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?
The most innovative adventure that I embarked upon in my career was to attend the online Film and Television Essentials Program at NYU at the beginning of my retirement. It was an online course that I decided was important as an author who wanted to see my books on screen. Even though I had retired, I was continually inspired to write. The lessons were compelling as there was much that I had to learn about the industry. There were many thought-based and technology-based activities. Every assignment gave insight into the many complexities of production from writing to direction and more. Story boarding gave me ideas about video shot sequencing. The major project for graduation was to create a film.
The project involved writing a script, story boarding for the video, venue selection and of course actors. I also had to create a movie poster The film that I created was a thirteen-minute video that is on YouTube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3Cefd1L8ME&t=17s.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
This year, I am celeberating my 25th year in this industry. During this time, over 30 books have been published and are on Amazon. As the founder and President of The Blood Drop Inheritance Group, I lead a group that assists emerging authors with formatting and preparing their books for publication. BDIG was created to showcase and assist in the publishing process.
I am most proud of the trilogy that was has penned that is a riveting journey through deceit, death, and betrayal which was a way of life. “Contempt, Reasons, and Sabotage” is the journey of the twists and turns of life, taking toil, leaving one in devastation. Attending the Film and Television Essentials Program, gave me the tools to write the script for Contempt.
Over the years, I have written and still continue to write feature articles for various websites and print publications. Some of my work has even been translated into other languages. The vision of my company Blood Drop Inheritance Group is to pen those words of inspiration and revelation from the throne room for all generations.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Prior to my attending the Film and Televison Essentials Program, there was much excitement around the Contmept book. There was a company in Canada that was interested in producing a television series. I even signed a contracgt for one year for representation. Assistance came in from a scriptwriter, wardrobe, actors, and even free venues were located. I was very excited to even attend the script readings on Zoom. It was all awe inspiring to see it all coming to pass. All of this happened prior to COVID, and the project was cancelled.
Even though time has passed, I still have the script, but now in a different format after going to school. I still have and hold the vision that the book will make on screen. I just keep the faith in the work that has been given to me.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The most important lesson I had to unlearn was about seasons. In the midst of excitement, there is a rush to get things done in a hurry because one thinks and believes that NOW is the time. I would say that this applies to my journey with attempting to making Contempt into a film. Even though everything was flowing and set in place, it was still not the right timing or even the right people.
So, in essence, I am stilling experiencing the learning process of what this project will entail and maybe that is necessary so that I will be knowledgeable of the magnitude of this vision.
