We recently connected with Samantha Patterson and Danielle DePriest and have shared our conversation below.
Samantha and Danielle, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
Upon trying to pick a topic to elaborate on as a team, this one resonated deeply for each of us. Investing in yourself. Investing in one another. Investing in our future, as a team. As two individuals who have been in the salon industry for a number of years, we both have had different trials and tribulations on our journeys. The typical salon environment did not always feel like we could be our authentic selves. It was hard to find our place as creatives, and still manage to stand out enough as individuals to be seen. Our industry is saturated with many professional artists, looking to find their safe space. Our goal with Seventh House Salon was to create a home, where we could come every day and thrive in a setting that was welcoming and secure. We both had a vision to create a space where we could practice our craft, as well providing an experience for each one of our clients. Time is one of the most precious gifts we can give to another. In todays fast paced world, where efficiency takes precedence, we believe there is immense value in investing time into our clients at Seventh House Salon. We recognize that quality service goes beyond just the end result- it’s about the journey we take with each client from the moment they walk through our doors. One of our main focuses here at the House, is to make memorable human connection.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Our partnership at Seventh House Salon is a testament to the power of shared vision and mutual respect. For the past decade, our collaborative journey has been characterized by a deep understanding of each other’s strengths, a shared commitment to each other, and a passion for the artistry of haircare. Our professional compatibility is rooted in genuine connection and a common belief of how clients should be treated. Beyond our technical skills, the passion for hair artistry shines through in dedication to ongoing education and innovation.
Our main focus is to remain committed to provide exceptional service, foster genuine connection with clients, and elevate our artistry to new heights. We are visionaries, collaborators, and partners in beauty, dedicated to make every client’s salon experience truly unforgettable. We want to open up our space to like-minded artists and individuals to do the same.
At our salon, we believe that our ability to communicate, inspire one another, and create magic in the hair is not just a skill- it’s an art form. It’s what sets us apart, drives us forward, and makes us truly proud to do what we love every single day. We truly believe we are able to create magic within the hair. Its not just about the cutting, coloring , or styling- its about using our skills and talents to weave in stories and evoke emotions, and transform lives.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that we have the privilege of being part of a transformative process. We listen empathetically to our clients stories, understanding that their outward appearance is a manifestation of their inner emotions and challenges. Through our attention to detail, we help them express themselves authentically and confidently to align with what is truly inside. The reward is not only in the final result, it’s witnessing the client’s reaction and the newfound confidence that lies within. It’s a reminder of the impact that our work can have, not just on appearance, but the overall well-being of the individual.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
We think that most people don’t realize the level of understanding that one has to have to work in our industry. We are expected to be customer service representatives, inventory managers, financial managers, team leaders, problem solvers, brand ambassadors, continuous learners, photographers, and therapists. Wearing all of these additional hats as salon stylists, we still are expected to contribute to the overall success to our salon. We have to maintain meaningful relationships and connections, while providing exceptional services. Most wont understand what a day in the life is, with no breaks, no lunch or time to use the bathroom, and especially no paid sick leave or vacations. We work long hours, and after all of this, most of us return home to a normal life with kids, laundry, dinners, homework etc.
