We were lucky to catch up with Cara Cline recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Cara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Starting your own business is always a risk of some kind. I feel it is always worth it, even in failure – we learn valuable lessons either way!
I have had the entrepreneurial “gene” in me since a younger age. I was inspired in the fact that my Grandfather came over from Greece by himself in his teens, was processed through Ellis Island and eventually landed in San Francisco where he started 2 businesses.
Our parents taught us many skills in our childhood and exposed us to art, crafts, music and travel which not only made our early childhood full of great memories, but for me, installed the notion that I could do more than one thing in life.
I fought against the idea of graduating from college, getting married and having 2.5 kids with the white picked fence with a lot of backlash from my family who were just doing what they were programmed to do.
While in a long Real Estate Assistant career after college, I dreamt of working for myself and was scared for many years to take that leap.
It was only when I moved to Oregon and met people there who had many of the same beliefs as I did that I took a risk and started my own Real Estate Marketing Company where I took photos of the listings, created the marketing for the agents and it took off very quickly.
The risk I took was so worth it because it not only brought me joy in doing things I loved to do, but taught me to ignore the naysayers (including some family), and lead me to expand the risk in self teaching myself how to design and build websites on online platforms.
I now own an Intuitive Website Design and Virtual Assistant Company where I can use my diverse skills to assist clients with various online projects.
I am so grateful that I take risks and they have all resulted in me being a stronger person, as well as really being more in tune with my Intuitive “voice”.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an Intuitive Website Designer and Virtual Assistant.
I specialize in providing virtual assistance to Lightworkers and Intuitive, or kind hearted entrepreneurs who are located in the United States.
The services I offer include: website design, graphic design, logo design, course creation slides and more!
I offer resources to help save money also that may help in someone deciding to take the leap and start a new business from scratch.
My own intuitive gifts allow me to better understand the unique needs of running a small businesses, and I provide a kind and safe space that is tailored to your specific goals.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I connected to others with purpose within my “market”. Now in saying that, as a website designer many may assume that anyone would be a good client for me. I really chose the type of clients I wanted and work hard at continuing that desire for myself. After being in a high paced environment like real estate in the past, I often was affected by those around me who chose to yell at each other and be very stressed under pressure. I join Facebook groups that are based on entrepreneurs who are healers – in natural and alternative health modalities and the like. I actively offer tips and tricks that may result in their online presence being more “attention grabbing” and through my participation, have made friends through these groups also. In showing who I really am in these groups, there is trust between the attendees and this resulted in me gaining clients organically. I find kindness and participation are key.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes! The goal and mission in my creative journey is to be happy! Gone are the days of taking a job because I felt I “had to”. I enjoy owning more than one business and working with kind and happy clients who enjoy the collaboration.
I will continue to learn new things all the days of my life. Not only is it good for our brains, but for the soul too! I learning new online programs, tricks and tools of each trade, it allows me to continue my creative processes in offering exciting results to my clients.
Positivity and curiosity make my journey a fun one!
