Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bella Kelly. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Bella , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I released my new song “Goodbye”. Every song I write is a piece of me, coming from my heart. “Goodbye” is about being torn between trying to make things work when you know it’s toxic or getting off the “crazy train”, falling in love with the idea of a person/relationship. Falling in love with someone’s face to then getting sick of their face because every time you look at them, it’s no longer the feeling of bliss and excitement, but now heartache, rage, a reminder of all that’s happened. We often fall for the idea of something which is why when you break up it’s so easy to reminisce of the “good times” and forget the hell ride. You remember the idea of someone, your relationship, instead of what it really was. Remembering the laughs, not the screams. The kisses, not the cutting words that were said, screamed. Sleeping together, forgetting the nights slept alone, choking on your own tears and regret. I said “Good times lasted for a dime. Good times aren’t in our time”. A reminder that those good times you remember lasted for a short time compared to the bad times. The truth is a bitter pill to swallow, but if you don’t, you’ll live in a torment of never ending let downs. It can be hard to let go and not think of the could’ve been, but someone who really loves you, won’t treat you like a toy for their personal game. Growing up I saw people cheat, lie, abuse and then get angry and regretful not because they were sorry for their actions, but they were sorry for getting caught. There’s a huge difference between the two. Someone who isn’t meant for you will leave a bitter taste in your mouth. It is never easy to let go. Especially after putting so much effort into someone and the relationship. Letting go, saying goodbye, can feel like a failure, but new beginnings can be life changing. By staying with someone who is toxic for you, not meant for you, it will ruin you, hold you down and make you sick, bitter, angry and regretful. I’ve seen what happens to someone who stays with someone who is toxic, not meant for them. The games, the lies will never stop. Your tears will eventually dry up because your soul is drained. Don’t do that to yourself. Your soulmate is out there. Someone who will not only love, but cherish and protect you. When you find your soulmate, you will realize what you experienced was never love. Only a step to guide you to what is meant for you. In the end, it’s best to say goodbye before becoming a monster, someone who you aren’t. Most of the time a Goodbye is what is needed. I always love to hear other’s perspective of my lyrics/songs. Their point of view or how their heart hears it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My passion has always been music. A mutual acquaintance of David and I introduced us to each other. Everything took off from there. When I met David, I was new to the music industry. David believed in my vision. David took me under his wing. My first studio session was for a rapper David was working with at the time. I did a chorus for the rappers song. I learned so much that day from David. Then we recorded my first song “Dark Barbie”. After recording, a few days passed, I showed David a song I wrote about the anxiety I was struggling with titled “Throat”. When David heard “Throat”, he decided to scratch “Dark Barbie” and release “Throat” as my first single. I trusted his judgment. We recorded “Throat” that same day. Then started planning the music video for “Throat” with Vicente Cordero, who is an amazing Director. Filming “Throat” was so much fun. We had Laney Chantal make the anxiety creature hand. Laney also did all the fx makeup. She did a sick job! RIP Laney! You are loved! A few months had past then we recorded my second single “Heartbreak Motel”. I am a singer, writer. I’ve been singing since I was old enough to stand. My mom bought me a karaoke machine when I was three. I loved to sing and to put on little performances for my mom and sisters. My writing started when I was very young. I would write stories, poems, and lyrics as a healthy way to cope with what I was dealing with, to express my feelings and my imagination. Music and my writing have always been a passion and safe place for me. I knew since I was young, I wanted to help people who are hurting and who felt like I was feeling with my lyrics, music. I didn’t have friends growing up. I was bullied in school, so I became homeschooled at a young age. I was very close to my sisters, but then they moved away. I felt very alone. Loneliness is one of the reasons I got so depressed, but writing was my light when I was in the dark. The pen and paper became my best friend. As a kid, music helped me SO much in being able to cope in a healthy way. Writing is one of the reasons I am alive today.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Consistency and being yourself. Don’t try to be someone you think people will like. In my opinion, the most important thing is to be yourself! Posting consistently is important, but don’t feel pressured to post every single day. Be consistent and don’t overthink it. Be you and be consistent. Don’t be afraid of being judged. Everyone has different opinions so you’ll be judged no matter how you are which is why it is best to be yourself.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to help others know they are not alone when they are going through difficult emotional issues or challenging situations. Bringing my ideas and characters to life while filming music videos is an amazing experience. Writing about my personal experiences or stories that others might relate to. I get to connect with people through my music and lyrics. I also get to meet other amazing, creative and talented people. I want to teach others there are healthy ways to cope with trauma, anxiety and depression. When I was younger, music and my writing helped me cope with the things I went through. I hope my music and stories really help people. People who have experienced abuse, been left alone, abandoned, struggle with mental health. People who were bullied, or suffered heartbreak. Today those things seem to be in the background. People focus and put effort in silly arguments.
My goal, I want my music and my story to tell people they’re not alone. There are people out there who care and relate to what they’re going through.
Music can heal the soul.
It’s one of the gifts from God while in this world.
