We were lucky to catch up with Jeremy Castle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jeremy , appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I began taking guitar lessons when I was a senior in high school. I began writing songs when I was in college. At first, I mainly wanted to learn to play songs by some of my favorite artists. As time went by, I gradually began to write my own original songs. I am not sure that I ever really initially had that intention. As time moved on, I soon found that I enjoyed writing my own stuff as opposed to singing other peoples songs.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a country music singer songwriter from Oklahoma. I write songs on a regular basis mainly because I enjoy it. I guess it’s mainly a hobby for me. I have a YouTube channel with many of my songs. I have always enjoyed listening to a variety of different music, but the songs I write would be classified in the country music genre. I enjoy writing songs and usually post them to share with other listeners.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
There is always an audience and it’s surprising to find out how many people around the world will find your music if you just put it out there. You can’t reach listeners unless you make it available for them to hear. I encourage aspiring singers and songwriters to try to improve their craft. Listen to other people’s songs and try to hear what it is that makes each of the songs unique and what makes the music catchy to listen to. Try to read about song structure if you can. There are lots of resources out there to help you become a better songwriter. Don’t be afraid to be original when you are creating your own personal style as a musician.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the process of writing a song is rewarding in itself. I think when you come up with a good hook, it is fun to see where it takes you. I enjoy wiring lyrics to verses that support and build but to the chorus. I also like to try to find a bridge that takes the song to a new aspect before the chorus has one last chance to reach the listener. Songwriting is both challenging and rewarding. If you find enjoyment in it, you are more likely to find the inspiration to write on a regular basis.
