We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ki’Ashanti Marshall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ki’Ashanti below.
Ki’Ashanti, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Next Choice Financials’ mission is to promote, provide, and enhance financial literacy within communities.
This mission is deeply personal for me, rooted in my journey of overcoming financial adversity. After experiencing the daunting reality of financial instability firsthand, I recognized the profound impact that a lack of financial literacy can have on individuals and families. Through my determination and resourcefulness, I was able to navigate through challenging times and emerge stronger.
I am driven by a passionate commitment to empower others with the knowledge and tools they need to achieve financial stability and success. By spreading awareness, offering resources, and providing essential services, Next Choice Financial aims to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and communities, helping them build a brighter financial future.
Ki’Ashanti, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After being a first-time stay-at-home mom for two years, a lack of proper financial literacy, and faced with debilitating financial issues in 2019, I was on the verge of losing everything. And lost my car – at least, for a moment. With my 780+ credit score now ruined and all options exhausted, I finally sat down and “faced the beast” head-on.
I created a detailed budget and stuck with it as if my life depended on it. Because – in all honesty, it did. In 7 short months, I was able to catch up on all my household bills, pay my credit cards off six months early, pay six months in advance for my storage unit, have my car note paid up for two years, began working on my credit, and settled two collection accounts that were on my credit profile.
Now, I am proud to contribute and serve my community through a mission-driven endeavor aimed at empowering individuals with the tools and knowledge necessary for financial success. My business, Next Choice Financial, focuses on spreading the word about the importance of managing money wisely, understanding credit, and making budgets work. Our Motto/slogan is “Make Your Next Choice Your Best Choice”. After all, life is not just about surviving – it’s about thriving.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Transparency. Personal finances tend to be a very sensitive topic for most people. And although most people have dealt with some type of financial hardship and/or crisis – we perfer not to “air out our dirty laundry”, especially to our peer or on the internet. I was once one of those people.
However, when I shared my transformative story about my home being in foreclosure, having a reposession on my credit report, maxed out credit cards and how I was able to pull myself out of that situation, that really resonated with others. They appreciated my honesty. Many of them were dealing with or have dealt with the same or similar issues.
By sharing my story and being vulnerable, I restored hope for many people because I showed them that there is light at the end of the tunnel. It did not happen overnight and it was a process, which is why we tell everyone – our clients included, to trust the process.
You never truly know what others are dealing with behind the scenes. We showcase the good but oftentimes hide the bad. I realized that my testimony and experience could be the answer to some one elses problems – I just had to be willing to lay it all on the line and let people know that your mistakes or situations does not dictate your future.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
As many of us have heard, “Communication is KEY”. We keep in touch with our clients and have fostered brand loyalty because we make sure to keep our clients in the loop. We provide monthly updates for our clients and they can schedule a call to review their progress throughout the process. While they are waiting for their monthly update, we provide ongoing education, tools, and resources via email, text, and social media. Our clients know that if they ever have a question or need clarity, we are there to help them.
We also celebrate our clients. In our eyes, a win is a win. So if their credit score increases by 1 point or 100 – we celebrate. If they’ve lowered their expenses, found a way to increase their income, and/or opened up a savings account – we celebrate. We treat our clients like family. It is all about ensuring that our clients know that they are supported and that we are truly rooting for them. As I mentioned before, personal finances can be a touchy subject. So, we are a no-judge zone because I have been in most of their shoes!
