We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nkeya Brooks a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nkeya, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The name of our company is Blezz It Creations where we allow God to use us in every way possible to please. Our motto “ God blessed these hands to create a masterpiece” is our prayer. Putting God first in everything we do, we feel makes our customer happy and that is what we aim for!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
BlezzItCreations was created in 2017. The business became known to the world after I lost my grandmother 2 years before. It took a rocky start but after long nights on my knees, we finally became just a company the sold hair growth oil. I didn’t know God was going to add more under to my plate. I would go to work and get off work and start working on my business t-shirts. Then I started working on candles, fragrances and that lead me to start making perfumes, colognes, and room sprays in 2020. Customer were ordering from so many states that I was so tired from working a 8 hour shift and went home to get the on my business orders from networking to work hard for my business. I started on candles, canvases just to see.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
What help me build my reputation was God! He blessed these hands to do amazing things and create masterpieces that allowed my business to grow. It wasn’t easy but I prayed and ask God for guidance and He did just that. I work a full time job, plus had 3 children to raise as a single mother and start an amazing business of all occasions. I started in 2017 and was determined to grow. Some days o would be up to 4am and had to go to work at 8 am but I wanted it so bad to run this business. I did hair, create canvases, t-shirts, flower arrangements, created a personalized fan, eczema cream, created fragrances for home, car, as well as for women and men, etc. I did a lot of research and when I got my income tax I set aside the money to start. I promoted my business on social media posting in my business page and sharing to my personal page and built my clients. I also passed out my business flyers and cards to my co workers and that’s were I got the most business. I stated also doing pop-up shops. You can do all things through Christ that strengthen you and that was my scripture for motivation. It was tough waking up and keep pushing but I knew God had me. I took rest days but I was determined to show my kids that how something to do when they are older to take over and build more of.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My best for new clients has been pop-up shops and going out passing out flyers and cards, as well as social media postings daily. It is definitely time consuming but well worth it.
