We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordan Knight. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordan below.
Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today.
If I could go back in time and start over again, I don’t think I’d change a thing with the learning and experiences, I believe so much of what I do now with my business was shaped by those beginning stages, however I’d learn how to be a bit more confident in myself and my worth. It’s still something I find myself working on to this day!

Jordan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Originally from Atlanta, Georgia I currently live in Los Angeles and have been here for 5 years now. I had the wonderful opportunity to live in NSW Australia for a couple years before LA and that’s where I started my career. Spending lots of time with a couple friends of mine who were wedding photographers, I was able to find my love for that portion of my career. I also began touring in the music world and doing photo and video on tour for some friends of mine. I went through a long period of touring with a band who didn’t have a lot of funding and basically toured for free to get experience and have fun with my friends! I wouldn’t trade that for the world. While doing wedding photography and music photography I was able to learn so much about low light, high pressure situations, working with people who aren’t used to being in front of the camera, quick turnarounds, and so much more. Today I find myself still working heavily in the music industry and I love that portion of my work. I also work along side different creatives with fashion and branding, working with A list clients who I’ve loved and respected for so much of my life has been such an amazing experience for me that I wake up every morning and am so grateful for!

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I think being a young female in the industry when I started really seemed a lot more difficult than it should’ve been. Unfortunately there was a lot of competition in the industry for females and not a lot of trust. Earlier in my journey I wish I knew I could’ve easily reached out to anyone for help. Peers are a huge part of my learning experiences and lessons through my journey and asking for help earlier on would’ve definitely helped me do a few things much quicker!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
For me, photography is a huge personal journey of self acceptance and confidence. I know that when people are in front of my lens I want them to be the most comfortable they can because the result will be beautiful and natural. I think my reputation reflects a lot of that, people will keep coming back to someone who they feel comfortable with. Being in front of the camera doesn’t come easy and putting aside the creative for the first bit and getting to know someone and understanding where they may have insecurities has become a huge routine in my career.
