Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashlee Mabe. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ashlee, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?

Coming up with the name “Noble Earring Co.” was a bit of a challenge! The creativity of coming up with names was fun, but when it came to committing I struggled with choosing something meaningful and long term. We live in Noblesville, Indiana so the word “noble” stuck out to me for a “local” feel. It places me locally to markets, businesses, etc. The word “noble” is also found in a Bible verse that has stuck with me and is now a part of the meaning behind the business name. “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:8 This verse reminds me not to get caught up in the highs and lows of life, especially when running a business. Businesses have highs and lows and as a result we put value in ourselves and what we’re doing. But my value doesn’t come from what I do. This verse is a constant reminder for me to think of what it true, noble, praiseworthy and it comes down to the fact that my value is not found in myself, the business or how much success I have. The truth is my value is found in Christ. And that is how I came up with the name Noble Earring Co.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I had a friend in Virginia who made polymer clay earrings and loved watching videos of her creating so much! I found myself deep diving into videos of people working with polymer clay – it’s so fun to watch! When we moved to Noblesville in 2022 I was working part time during the week and had my two boys the rest of the week. I’ve always loved creating things, but I hadn’t really had the space or time to do anything after having kids. I decided to try something new as a hobby while being at home with my boys and polymer clay was the first thing on my mind! I bought a start up kit from a creator on Instagram and the rest is history – literally. I haven’t stopped working with clay since. I launched my website in the spring of 2023 and have loved every second of it. It’s been one year since I launched my website and I’m looking forward to what this second year will bring!

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.

I sell my polymer clay jewelry through Shopify. I’ve enjoyed their perks, especially with shipping straight from the site. Their website was difficult for me to figure out initially, but I had never built a website before. My husband, however, figured it out right away from his personal experience with building websites. I will say that my experience with their customer service has been excellent! I was up way too late one night working on a drop that was supposed to be launching the night day and their support person was able to quickly figure out what I did wrong on my end of the website and corrected everything efficiently. Don’t know what I would have done without their help!

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

The best way that I have received new clients is from word of mouth from current or previous clients. They’ll wear earrings that I’ve made and someone will compliment them or ask them where they got them and they’ll send them to me! When you have people who love your product and want to share it with others it not only gets the word out on your products, but it just makes your day! I love the people who support me and share my earrings with others.
