We recently connected with KeJuana Ford and have shared our conversation below.

KeJuana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.

At the age of 19, I found myself in Dayton, Ohio, my hometown, filled with youthful and ambitious dreams. Juggling dental assistant school during the day and delivering meals at the hospital, a burning desire for more lingered within me. I knew there was something greater waiting for me beyond my current routine.

One evening, after finishing my hospital shift, I stopped at Walgreens and picked up a Revlon concealer, brush, and an eyebrow pencil. Returning home, I stared into the mirror and began practicing on my eyebrows. To my surprise, I thought they looked great, so I took a leap of faith and made a post on Facebook, announcing that I was now accepting appointments for eyebrows.

The response was overwhelming. Overnight, my social media was flooded with messages from potential clients eager to book appointments. I was in awe; I had no formal training, no experience, but what I did have was unwavering faith in myself. For the next four years, I operated out of my mother’s dining room before eventually moving into a suite inside a barbershop.

As I honed my skills and built a clientele, the idea of leaving my comfort zone started to grow within me. One day, while working in the barbershop, I felt an undeniable urge to step out of Ohio and explore new horizons.

In 2019, during one of the most challenging periods of my life after losing my grandmother, who was also my best friend, I turned to prayer for guidance. I made a life-altering decision to move to Charlotte, North Carolina alone. leaving my entire family and friends, with only a few belongings, and embarked on a journey of rebuilding from my clientele to my home and my entire life.

Taking that leap of faith proved to be transformative. I not only fulfilled my dream of opening a brow spa but also expanded my horizons by traveling the world, teaching women like myself the art of eyebrows and helping them build their businesses. In addition to these professional accomplishments, I embraced personal growth, becoming a mother, author, and speaker, among other achievements. All of this was made possible by trusting in my faith, taking that leap, and allowing God to guide me every step of the way.

KeJuana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Stepping into the beauty industry was a leap of faith and a testament to my belief in both myself and God. This journey has given rise to a brand that goes beyond mere services—it’s a celebration of natural beauty and empowerment. Brows by Keke Brow Spa is not just a business; it’s a statement, a black woman-owned service-based enterprise dedicated to enhancing natural beauty through the art of eyebrow design.

Our spa specializes in two high-demand services that are redefining beauty standards in the industry. Beyond shaping brows, we are in the business of building confidence in the everyday woman. Our commitment extends to the creation of quality products under She Brow Cosmetics, designed to support the at-home upkeep of our signature services.

As women, we often forget to prioritize ourselves amidst the demands of our daily lives. Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

Becoming a mother for the first time was a monumental moment that demanded a significant pivot in my life. Suddenly, everything was different and new, and I found myself navigating uncharted territory with the arrival of my son.

The initial days brought many emotions, challenges, and joys. From sleepless nights to soothing lullabies, every experience was a learning opportunity. I had to pivot from my accustomed routine and embrace a new rhythm for the needs of my child.

Becoming a mother wasn’t just a pivot; it was a shift, a journey of self-discovery, and a testament to the incredible capacity for growth that parenthood brings. In the midst of the unknown, I found a new version of myself, one shaped by the experience of motherhood.”

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?

This answer will be quite simple, a relationship with God. It’s a powerful source of support and guidance in my journey. My faith provides a sense of purpose, resilience, and a moral compass that influences my decisions and actions. That leads me to my success!
