We were lucky to catch up with Anna Platen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Anna, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I am an actress and I went to college for that, which is weird, but kind of a thing in Europe. Funny enough though, I don’t think I learnt what I had to. I did learn, don’t get me wrong, about stage positions and vocal chords and Shakespeare… but life really taught me lesson. And still is. Being an artist is a very individual journey, whether you’re born into it, found your way to it or are still searching, I find that the learning will never end. The only real obstacle is YOU – you doubting yourself, you listening to opinions that do not matter, you comparing yourselves to others. I does not matter where you start. But to keep going.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a German actress, moved to Los Angeles three years ago. I have been working as an actress and model in Europe, but always wanted to expand and learn and grow. I got a scholarship to an acting degree in Los Angeles, so I came and I stayed. I have shot some great projects here (Skill House) and back in Europe (HBO Para). I am excited to tell you what big thing is next – but that is still a secret!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Telling stories. Finally making sense of this childhood trauma. And people resonating with that!
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I just wish someone told me not to give a f*ck about other people’s opinions.
