We were lucky to catch up with Haley Kristovich recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Haley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
You know I actually feel that I started my business at the exact right time in my life! I have worked many jobs over the years and always continued to do weddings on the side helping friends and family, but it was not the right time for me to dive in full force until exactly when I did.
I have a wonderful supportive husband and two young boys, and I was given the gift of being able to be home with them when they were young. During this time, I thought a lot about what I would do once they were both in school and my husband Justin was actually the one who motivated me to jump in with both feet. I started my business in 2022 since our youngest would be going to kindergarten that fall and it truly was perfect! I was able to find that part of me that had been somewhat silent all these years of raising babies. I hade the time, the mind space and the artistic drive to get to do what my heart loves.
If I had started earlier, I do not believe that I would have been able to enjoy it the way that I do now. It is mine, me, and I do not have to sacrifice my time with my family to run my business, at least not very often. When I do, they support me and love me through it all! My boys are older now and more independent and also love watching me do what I do and even ask to build their own flower arrangements for our dining room table!
The timing was perfect!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi there, my name is Haley Kristovich and I am the owner of Every Detail Matters PNW! I am a lover of love who started a small business out of my home here in Toledo, WA in 2022 doing art that fills my heart! My wedding and event path started many years ago, about 20 to be more precise, with a friend our my families who is a florist. This amazing woman taught me so much of what I know today and gave me the tools to create my own style and touch. She also was the one who introduced me to the world of coordinating, having so much trust and confidence in what I bring to the table she helped me put myself on the map! After many years of doing flowers and coordinating on the side I finally was able to make my dream come true and turn what I love into my full-time job which really rarely feels like a job at all! I think as artists and planners over time we find our own style and way we like to do things so as a florist and coordinator I bring my own spin on designs and fun, simple to understand and follow, organization with great time management which can help to set me apart from others, plus I absolutely love helping people and putting smiles on everyone’s faces, couples, families and guests means that I did what I came to do! So many things in life take a village and this is definitely one of those things, starting a business, but I am so proud of all of the new things that I have learned from others in the industry along with discovering my own ways. Having something like this that is my own has brought forward challenges and confidence which has made me a stronger person on so many levels!
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes, my side hustle turned into my full time career back in 2022. I got started with wedding and event flowers and coordinating about twenty years ago with a family friend. I would do floral and decor side jobs with her which later escalated into wedding coordinating. During this time I also had a full time job. This went on for many years then I got married and had two kiddos and was given the amazing gift of being able to stay home and be with my boys. When my youngest son started preschool I starting thinking about what I was going to do when he went to school full time. My husband, who has always been my biggest cheerleader said, “jump in with two feet and start your business doing what you love!” So, I did and right away starting connecting with people that I used to work with in the industry and new people in my area and all over the PNW to get my business going and what happened from there was incrediable. My first year was a great success and helped to boost my confidence in being able to make this dream come true!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe that my reputation in the industry that I am in has been built from my dedication to my clients and creating a personal realation ship with them. I do not want to just email with you and talk to you once, I want to get to know you and partner and find out what you like and dont like, what your hobbies are, what you do for work, about your family and friends, it all matters when working with someone to help bring one of the biggest days of their life to life. Orginazation and being on time are other things that have helped me to build my reputation. Time is such a huge element when it comes to what I do and I take a lot of pride in being timely with all aspects of the process.
