Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
Declan James Watch Co. donates 10% of every sale to the Navy SEAL Foundation (NSF). I chose this organization because, as a former Navy SEAL myself, the organization is near and dear to my heart. Not only is this an opportunity to give back to the SEAL community that has given me so much, but it is also an opportunity to give back to the families of Navy SEALs who also sacrifice so much.

The story behind Declan James starts with my journey from a Navy SEAL to an entrepreneur. It reflects a passionate pursuit of a lifelong interest in watches and a desire to create something enduring and valuable for my sons. Before starting Declan James Watch Co., I worked in commercial real estate and then, at age 29, joined the Navy SEALs, where I served for eight years.
My transition into entrepreneurship was driven by my passion for watches, which he traces back to childhood. The decision to start a watch company came from a blend of personal interest and professional ambition, eventually leading to the brand’s establishment.

It is distinguished not only by its commitment to creating watches with fine craftsmanship, flawless design, and uncompromising standards but also by my personal story and values as a Navy SEAL. I embarked on this venture with a higher purpose, aiming to leave a meaningful legacy and establish a company my sons could be proud of for generations. Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

Even if you do not buy a watch from us, we go out of our way to ensure your experience is most convenient and pleasurable. We hope that someday you might return.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I funded Declan James with personal money saved for eight years. While in the military, I saved all my reenlistment bonuses and any extra money I was paid while deployed. It was neither difficult nor easy. I knew someday I would start a business, so with a firm budget, I put a little of every paycheck aside and watch it grow.
