We recently connected with Jackie Nees and have shared our conversation below.
Jackie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I am 100% happier as a business owner. I’ve worked many jobs in my life and had very few that I actually enjoyed. I always felt like I didn’t fit in. I wanted to advance in the work I was doing, but was told I didn’t have the right experience or education, even though I had great ideas and the skills to execute them. It was frustrating and disheartening.
One of my last jobs before starting my business was one where I would get off and go sit in my car and cry every evening, because I was so miserable. I knew I wanted more. I wanted to have a say in what I could do and most of all, I wanted freedom.
I do sometimes think about what it would be like to have a job again, but I am quickly reminded that I have freedom to create whatever I want and do it on my time, my way and wouldn’t have that luxury sitting in a cubicle working for someone else.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I call myself a Soul Strategist because I help others connect with who they are on a soul level to discover their purpose, overcome obstacles and live the life that aligns with their truth and who they are meant to be.
Growing up, I didn’t fit in. I was shy, overweight and wasn’t into sports or activities that the more popular kids were into. I always felt “less than” and unworthy, even well into my adult years. When I started working on myself and believing in myself and my dreams, I knew I wanted to help empower others to do the same. I wanted them to know that they are worthy of anything their heart desires and that they didn’t have to feel like I did for so many years.
Being a spiritual person, I knew I wanted to incorporate that into my work, so I started off doing crystal healing, which was powerful and impactful for myself and my clients. I later added tarot and numerology to my services and most recently, life coaching. I use all of these tools to help my clients discover their purpose and overcome hurdles that are keeping them from living their best life.
What sets me apart is that I incorporate the “woo woo” with the practical. During a first life coaching session with a client, we go over their numerology profile, which gives them a better understanding of their purpose, challenges, unique traits, gifts and much more. As we progress through our follow-up sessions, clients can expect card readings to get clear on what’s happening in their life and how to move forward. I’ve even done meditations with clients to help them get grounded and centered before we begin our session. All of these things help me go deep with my clients and it helps them feel seen and understood, which leads to transformational results.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I decided to leave the corporate world, I started my first business as a virtual assistant. I knew that it would allow me to utilize the skills I had gained through various jobs, and also to showcase skills that I had that I didn’t have the ability to use while employed because I didn’t have the right experience or education to take on advanced roles like management. The VA business was rewarding and lucrative for awhile, but eventually I began to feel like I was back in my 9-5. I was working a lot, around someone else’s schedule and ultimately, I was still working for someone else. I didn’t like that feeling at all and it was wearing me down. That’s when I decided that I wanted to pursue a spiritual path that lit me up rather than draining me physically, emotionally and mentally. That decision led me to the work I do today.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I show up as me. I don’t come off as “salesy” or pushy when I talk about what I do. I stay true and authentic to who I am. I share personal stories and behind the scenes glimpses into my work. People get to see the real me vs. a highlight reel. My clients have experienced transformation and growth as a result of working with me and I love to share their testimonials so that others can get an idea of what they can expect.
