We recently connected with Amy Triplett and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
I had been a licensed mental health counselor for several years and very happy in my own private practice. In late 2022, my dear friend, Mara, asked me to do some end of life work with her. She had had cancer for over 5 years at that time and new things were progressing. We had been friends for many years but now decided to pivot to the role of end of life counselor. In March 2023, Mara had the opportunity to participate in a immunotherapy drug trial in Houston at MD Anderson. I went up there to help her (so her husband could stay home in FL with their son). I googled “meditation Houston” and was directed to a meditation center. Mara and I went and were blown away. It was meditation in an aerial silk hammock with sound bowl healing. When we left there she looked at me and said, “ you know you need to do this, right?” Yes. I knew instantly that God brought me there to show me what I was supposed to do.
I had never had an experience like that before. I’m goal oriented and it hits different when you have a personal or professional goal that you create for yourself. When you feel a higher calling for something you never even knew you wanted, it’s such an honor. I felt very chosen. That God saw fit to choose me to facilitate healing for so many people in my community. Whenever I have doubted things along the way, it has been so easy to dismiss my worries. This is not from me and because of that I know that the path will be cleared. My job is just to prepare for what has been bestowed upon me and show up as the best version of me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a former special education teacher. I had the privilege of teaching students with behavior disorders and learning disabilities for 12 years. Eventually, I left the profession when I started having my own children (I have 4). In my 40’s I went back to graduate school and got my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. Yes, you can change the script at any time! I’ve always had a curiosity for understanding why people behave the way they do.
I have loved being a counselor but i like to be challenged and after a few years, I was drawn to becoming a hypnotherapist. Understanding the subconscious mind and the power of it was fascinating to me. I loved helping people with strategies to combat negative symptoms, but I wanted to teach my clients more about the light! Hypnotherapy deepened my skill set in this area. I found that marrying together my counseling and hypnotherapy is what felt most authentic to me. If your brain is an iceberg, your conscious mind being the 10% above water and the subconscious being the 90% below water, it only made sense to me to work with the entire iceberg. For several years I combined my counseling with hypnotherapy, when it was appropriate, with my clients. I know that this was an integral part in honing my skills as a meditation facilitator
At OM Meditation and Wellness, we offer many kinds of healing modalities. Our signature meditation class is a 50 minute class that starts with some light breath work, progressive relaxation, followed by meditation and sound bowl healing. In addition to offering this class several times a day, we also offer a variety of workshops on a monthly basis. Some of our workshops include Sandbag Yoga and Sound Healing Meditation, Reiki and Sound Healing Meditation, Intention Setting Candle Making and Goddess Gatherings. We also have private sound healing sessions that include tuning forks, Tibetan bowls, crystal sound bowls and gong. I want to offer whatever the community needs and bring in other faciliator’s magic.
Now, my passion is teaching people the power of their mind…and how to take it to the light side. So many people want to be happier and yet don’t know the power of their thoughts and the language that they use. I still have my counseling practice, but now, with my meditation studio, I do several meditations a week. I want people to feel like OM Meditation and Wellness is a safe space for them to “dip their toes” in the water. That safe space between woo and church. That space where they can explore the essence of who they are (but not in a clinical setting). I love the phrase “You already are your own answer to every question.” When you’re not questioning, demanding, asking….when you are quiet and can clear away the clutter in your mind, you can hear exactly what you need to hear. The message from God/univerise/source/highest self are waiting for you there. And when you can receive those answers, you are tapping into your essence of what makes you so unique and special. What a wonderful ripple effect to have everyone to tap more deeply into themselves..

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I’m constantly going back to is I am doing myself and others a disservice when I do not step in to my own power. It’s easy to shrink yourself. To doubt yourself. To play smaller than you really are (usually based out of fear). But when I am reminded of how beautifully and uniquely made, I am, it reminds me to step into all of that specialness. And how amazing is that to know… That there is only one you. So be unapologetically you!
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Absolutely. One of the lessons I’ve learned this year is that none of it is wasted. My time as a teacher helped me hone my skills as a leader and public speaker. My career as a counselor has certainly helped me connect with others and see all sides of a situation. All the Bible studies and sermons I’ve heard over the years have not only deepened my faith, but I’ve used these lessons in my practice. My hypnotherapy education has taught me the power of the mind. All of these are pieces of me that enable me to serve my clients so well. I’m so grateful for each and every piece.
