We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rebeca Pinto Bottone a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebeca , thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Eyes And Colors is the name of my business, I paint to create a better reality. I use vibrant colors mixed with eyes to express feelings and moods creating atypical forms to accentuate the expressions. My artwork has a message of positivity, resilience, happiness, hope, joy, love, kindness, energy, good vibes… in the middle of the chaos we live in. Positive scenarios are so needed it for humans, especially in this time when we are experiencing so such lack of kindness and compassion to each other. In college I created an artist’s book expressing how I see you through eyes and colors, then I started to create little handmade versions of my artbook for sale in my first Art Fair the Artist’s Book Expo, such as note books, puzzles, shirts, etc. From this time, I felt in love with transmitting positive vibes, make the observant feel happy just admiring the color mix in my artwork. Little by little family and friends started to ask for commission artworks and I started to get more customers outside my circle, mainly by referrals.
Rebeca , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Visual Artist / Designer. I went to college for Graphic Design and felt in love with Art, I apply my design knowledge to my art, which is apparent through the use of geometric shapes and lines. I create fine art that reflects positive feelings, experiences and states of mind. My compositions are full of bright colors and atypical eye shapes help customers to light up their spaces, giving a sense of Happiness. I also apply my art concept to quotidian objects giving them a more impactful effect in the observant. In 2020 I funded Eyes And Colors, and open my website www.eyesandcolors.art with the believe that creative fields are essential in our lives, I am fully committed to provide top quality Art and Design Services, specializing in Unique Paintings and Creative / Functional Solutions.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I am from Venezuela, after the economy of my country collapsed, I decide to look for new opportunities, so in 2015 I came to the United States and started to show my artwork in Miami and Broward Galleries. Later I got a job as Interior Designer. In 2020 due to COVID, I lost my job as Designer, so decided to build my own website myself, it took me quite of bit because I didn’t know anything about the process but I made it! Now I have a portfolio available to show my artwork online wherever I am, and offer my paintings internationally. Currently I work as designer half of my time and the other half I am dedicated to my business and always looking Art Projects opportunities around. Being a business owner is not an easy job, is a lot of work and challenges, I am passionate to create pieces of Art that give a positive accent to spaces. My goal is to dedicate 100% of my time to my passion, be able to combine Art and Design with my own point of view, and every day I work to reach my goal.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
You can find my paintings for sale on my website www.eyesandcolors.art, powered by shopify. And I have some products on Etsy. I use both plaforms but dedicate more time to my website.
