We were lucky to catch up with Jada Roberts recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jada, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
How did I get into my industry? I truly believe that what is meant for you will call you but it is up to you to answer the call. Sometimes the things we do most commonly are the things that are our passions, the thing that is our purpose , it might even be the thing that is OUR POWER. Speaking life into others, inspiring others, and helping transform lives was a calling that I could not decline. I’ve always loved speaking in front of people , whether it was to make them smile or laugh. Even behind the scenes I would always write poems, stories and create new motivational quotes. I never knew how much power and meaning my words had on the lives of others until my freshman year of college one of my friends, Tray Millz heard one of my poems and suggested me to recite it in front of a large crowd at Georgia Southern University. After that people would reach out and ask me to speak at certain events and I fell in love with the process of being able to shift the mindset of others, helping others gain their confidence , and help the mental wellness of others and I kept going! My psychology expertise and my experiences help me as a speaker. But, What sets me apart from other speakers is my youthfulness, reliability and my vibrant energy! I am only 23 years old , so a lot of the students engage a lot with me and my personality allows me to teach tangible skillsets and empower others in a fun and cool way. I am able to make the least engaged kids want to participate! Lol, the kids always want me to stay or come back. When schools and organizations bring me in to speak I help solve a lot of problems such empowering the students with apathy, equipping students with leadership growth and development that helps their SEL skills, and I help create a positive culture by teaching resilience and mental wellness— just to name a few. Having a speaking business and creating programs and innovative ways to teach and empower others is like any other business, it takes discipline and consistency. What keeps me going is knowing the power the creator has given me, we are literally taught that the power of life and death lies in the tongue. So knowing that everyday I talk I am able to save lives makes me stay consistent — because my laziness or lack of disciple can cause someone else to suffer. One of my mentors, Jeremy Anderson says ” I don’t speak to eat, I speak to feed” and that is exactly why I take my business very seriously! Being an entrepreneur I do have A LOT of proud moments so far— like working with successful world changers such as Dr. Eric Thomas, or having people tell me how I have helped change their lives, or even the life that I am creating for my family. But I think the main thing I am proud of when it comes to my business is my willinginess. For the past year in a half every room that I have been in I was the youngest, I have had people tell me things I couldn’t do or what I shouldn’t do, I have even been belittled multiple times— but I never stopped doing what God told me to do. That is one of the reasons I call myself “Jadaastarr” because I never let anyone or anything stop me from shining my light in the world.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
lol this story is crazy! I HAD NO MONEY! I literally had just enough money to get in the room, the room that changed my life. It was one day, I was tired of feeling unsuccessfully and I was about to delete social media off my phone, lol you know that’s what we do when we are about to lock in and get our lives back together– we delete social media. But before I deleted it, I wanted to go hear some inspiration , so I went on Eric Thomas’ instagram page. I was like “I know he got something for me lol.” I didn’t even follow him on social media, I just knew how anointed he was. When I went on his page I saw that he was going to be speaking at a conference in Atlanta in 2 days. OMG, I GOT SO EXCITED! I had been wanting to see him in person for the longest. So, I went to the link to buy the ticket and those tickets were like $1500, lol I had just graduated. I did NOT have $!500. But I did have like $700. So , I reached out to two family members and asked them to invest in me and they did. But I was still like 200 dollars off. BUT I DID NOT GIVE UP. I went around my house looking in all the drawers and collected over 200 dollars in quarters to go to that conference. By the grace of God I was able to get in the room, I was the first girl in line like 2 hours early lol. While I was at the conference one of the speakers picked ME, the youngest one in the room, the brokest one in the room to come on the stage and lead the crowd in affirmations. That is when I knew that this was what God wanted me to do. After that moment my mindset did a 360 shift, my spirit was new, my heart got healed. After that conference I was around successful people that I now call family. After that conference I gained mentors, teachers, and coaches ( which are necessary if you want to be successful). So shout out to Coach Jessica Lundy, Coach Crump, Jeremy Anderson, Dr. Eric Thomas , DeOni, Tia Banks, Donovan Tolbert, Jared Scott, Stevon Lester, Jeremiah Brown, Auntie Nicole Crump, Ms. Sophy and the whole Next Level family for helping transform my life so I can transform others. ( By the way, I might have left some people out but don’t charge it to my heart lol) I was able to take my business to a new level and I am still taking it to new levels. Yes, I invested money to get in the room but after that I had to invest my old mindset for a new one, I had to invest time doing other stuff to time learning and building, I had to invest old conversations to new million dollar conversations. Funding your business is more than just money, it’s a lifestyle. But whatever you want to spend on your business, that is what you are willing to make. People usually say “scared money doesn’t make money” but it’s really a “scared mindset doesn’t make money.” I spent all I had to get in that room because that’s how much I believed in my mind that I could be successful and now my life has changed for the better, in every aspect… my health, my wellness, my mindset, and my finances.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2022. All I wanted to do after graduation was get back into school, I didn’t really care about speaking— I thought it was cool and all but I really wanted to go to school to get my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. So, I actually applied for the program at a high ranking school that was all the way on the other side of the country. I think over 200 people applied for this program and only 11 of us got in, yes– I was one of the 11. Then, I applied for an assistantship ( meaning they were going to pay for me to go to school & I was going to have a job where I got paid too). So, here I am with the opportunity to go all the way to a beautiful state on the other side of the country , for free , while getting paid — doing the main thing I wanted to do. But I turned it down. I turned it down to take my business more seriously. So, a couple of weeks after I turned down the offer to college I had the opportunity to speak at a mastermind conference in Cancun, Mexico. I was the youngest speaker and I got to speak in front of successful business owners and speakers from around the world. After I spoke, I connected with a very very successful business owner and the next month his team flew me out to Michigan to speak to middle schools and high schoolers. Now I know none of this would have happened , or it at least wouldn’t have happened as quickly if I would’ve never followed my dreams and trusted my beliefs. Now, I do love learning and education, so I plan on going back to school! But I am glad that I made that pivot in my life by not settling to do something because it felt right but actually going for a risk and believing in my gift, My mentor Jeremy always says ” Always grateful, never settle” and that is the mindset I had when I made the pivot in my life to go all in with my career as an entrepreneur.
