We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Monique Rondeau a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Monique thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Over the course of my life I’ve had many “regular” jobs. Honestly, I am still grateful for them. Without the skill sets I was able to obtain through them, I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today.
The quote- I quit my 9-5 to work 24/7 is hilarious, and true. But doing what you love everyday is the best.
Monique, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started my online fitness business in 2011, as a side hustle from my “real job” in H&S (industrial health & safety). In 2017 I quit my full time position and dove into my side hustle head first.
That’s when Bikini Bliss Fitness was born.
Since the birth of bliss, I have scaled my business far beyond my own expectations, but more than that, I have trained 5,000 + women from all over Canada and the US.
After over a decade in the health & fitness space, I recently started taking on business consulting clients. It happened organically and I am so grateful to be able to share my knowledge with others.
Have you ever had to pivot?
While most will say that the pandemic was the worst years of their lives, I can honestly say it was some of the best for myself… hear me out.
I had already established an online fitness business, already had a strong connection with my clients and specialized in online coaching.
With nothing but time on my hands, I was able to dive in even further with the online coaching and provide further value to my clients.
The pivot was still relevant though, due to the travel restrictions we were forced to reschedule& revamp our grand prizes.
But this also allowed us to look at offering pre packaged trips for our winners, which honestly was a game changer for my business model.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Every business I’ve owned, started or have been blessed to be apart of has been self funded.
Understanding that investing in yourself (your business) will offer you the biggest return, which you can control is key.
Since moving from fitness coach to business coach, this is one of the first things I teach my students.
Believe in yourself, your product, your offer and believe in it so much that you’ll invest the funds generated BACK into your business.
