We were lucky to catch up with Bari Bands recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bari, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
From when I started my career as an artist up to where I am now, I have always tried to help those around me. I believe so much in myself that it’s only right that I would try to make those around me believe in themselves and try to reach their highest potential. In doing that, of course along the way I have had people take advantage of me and my generosity. In my recent project, The R.E.A.L Villain, I was able to express the struggles I’ve had with mixing friends and business. The title of the album stands for Realizing Everybody Ain’t Loyal, and as you get closer and closer to the top you realize just that. You learn who is around to help reach the end goal and who is around to reap the benefits of what you can provide. As an artist and a businessman, this was an important lesson to learn because in order for me to grow its necessary to be surrounded by likeminded people.
Bari, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
When I was growing up I was surrounded by music and business oriented people, so it was only a matter of time that I would become a product of my own environment. During my upbringing, I always was a good listener and learned from every situation. With those main skills, I was able to go further than those around me. Funny enough, to this day my oldest cousin always tells me I was the only one that listened. For each goal I have created for myself, I always kept my eyes on the prize. Consistency and discipline is required in getting the things you want out of life; I strive to be an example of that. My brand and really who I am is iMOB, it stands for Independent Movement of Brothers. The movement has created a way for me to inspire and motivate others from my motivational instagram videos to my music. My followers have been able to watch me over the years and can definitely agree that, hard work truly pays off. I think that is what sets me apart from other artist coming up because I am truly living what I rap about and not everyone can say that.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Something I think people who aren’t in this industry wouldn’t understand is that this shit doesn’t happen overnight, everything takes time. When aren’t feeling motivated that you have to at least remain consistent, there’s going to be a lot of times when you don’t want to get up and do the things you need to but in order to reach the end goal it’s required.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As an artist and an entrepreneur, the most rewarding aspect is getting to work at your own pace and be your own boss. You’re in total control of the creative process behind everything and get to watch your dreams become reality.
