We were lucky to catch up with Chate’ Angel Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Chate’ Angel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
One of my swimming clients coordinated an opportunity for Aqua Swim Angels to teach swim lessons to their entire community. I was so grateful for that kind gesture and currently, this will be 4 years of teaching swim lessons in the community. The support is amazing!

Chate’ Angel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Chate’s love for water started as early as 6 months old and she has never stopped her pursuit of learning new swimming techniques. Chate’ swam competitively with a swim club called Chicago South Swim Club (CSSC) as a child and also on the swim team all 4 years of high school. Chate’ worked as a certified lifeguard for the Chicago Park District, and while in college, at Texas Southern University Recreational Center. Chate’ swims all 4 strokes but her favorite stroke is backstroke in which she has earned several medals.
Chate’ started her swim business in 2019 and has a passion for teaching water safety skills and empowering humans to learn how to swim. Currently, Chate’ is a certified Water Safety Instructor through the American Red Cross and is also pursuing her coaching certifications.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My strategy for growing a clientele is quality over quantity to pace myself and build slowly and steadily.

Any advice for managing a team?
I think it’s very important to uphold yourself to the same standards as everyone else. I believe in showing positivity, appreciation, kindness, communication, and support. When I lead by example it empowers others to become the best version of themselves.
