We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Vasco recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nicole thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later?
If I could go back in time, I would have started my copy and content writing business much sooner. Years ago, as a new stay-at-home mom, I was excited to get the chance to be the mom I always wanted to be, but I always had the desire to work from home while raising my children. Becoming a mom didn’t dim my ambition for wanting to work, earn an income, and feel impactful in the world. It actually increased my desire to want more because the world saw me as just a stay-at-home mom.
I dabbled in unique work-from-home jobs from networking marketing to teaching ESL virtually to children overseas to influencer marketing and nothing gave me the fulfillment nor the income I really want that allowed me the freedom to be both mom and entrepreneur.
It wasn’t until I started my blog TheMompreneurProject.com to help ambitious stay-at-home moms who miss making income create make money so they can contribute financially by working from home without having to choose between career and family, that my love of the written language was reignited.
Soon after, freelance writing found me, and it has been a fun and lucrative experience. I help small and medium businesses build their online presence and brand reputation and generate more leads by consistently creating quality content that converts.
Although, I wish I had freelanced sooner; I believe everything happens in God’s time and I am right where I’m supposed to be.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Content marketing is one of the best marketing strategies for small and big businesses alike, but writing content can be difficult and time-consuming if you aren’t a writer. That’s where I come in! I help small and medium businesses build their online presence and brand reputation, generate more leads, and become an authority in their niche by consistently creating quality content that converts.
With a background in communications, journalism, Public Relations, and marketing, writing copy and content feels very natural for me. I offer blog content writing, email marketing copy, website copy, and newsletter creation. I love taking a client’s idea from scattered to focused so their messaging moves their audience to take action.
My favorite part of being a writer is learning about my client’s beliefs and opinions in their niche. Your opinions and beliefs set you apart and help your brand get heard over the many voices marketing themselves online. In my writing process, I take time to get to know my ideal client’s voice very well before I write my first sentence. My copy and content are tailored and made for each client and their business needs.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
As a creative, I constantly struggle with having too many ideas and wanting to execute all of them at once. In 2020, I read a book called Do Less by Kate Northrup and it literally changed the way I thought about my life, my work, and how I want to show up for my children.
In Do Less, Kate Northrup challenges the notion that in our American culture, that praises and encourages doing more; you know the hustle culture of grinding 24/7 and being busy just for the sake of being busy, that we should prioritize doing less and working in the natural rhythms God has already created for us. We can see these rhythms or patterns in nature, in the four seasons, in the moon, and in ourselves if we pay attention.
So often many women, especially moms, struggle with feeling inadequate and based their worth on how productive they are. Do Less taught me that my worth is not based on how many things I can get checked off my to-do list. This book taught me it is ok to rest, like really rest, and have more faith that the things that need to get done will get done in time. Since reading Do Less, I have become more intentional about how I use my time as a work-from-home mom so I can be a wife, mom, and freelancer without feeling stressed or overwhelmed.
If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
As a multi-passionate creative, not only am I a freelance copy and content writer, but I also have a blog called The Mompreneur Project. The Mompreneur Project is a blog dedicated to helping ambitious stay-at-home moms who miss making income create a profitable freelance business from scratch so they can contribute financially working from home without having to choose between career and family. My blog creates passive income for my business through affiliate partnerships. I am also creating a digital shop with digital products and small courses to further help moms learn how to balance working from home with small children.
