Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bryan Vielhauer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bryan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Being Humble and owning your wins but more importantly taking full ownership of the institution’s mistakes.
One of my lemons into lemonade moments involved finding a spelling error on a panel we had just shipped out to each one of our customers 300 franchise locations. While technically the error was not our team’s fault, we should never have let it happen. I called the President of the company at 6:45 AM to let him know about the misspelling so that he would not be caught off guard when he started receiving calls about the issue from his franchisees. By proactively taking ownership of the mistake, and providing a solution to fix the issue, I was able to create a 15-year bond with our customers’ leadership, that has helped my company grow.

Bryan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Absolutely! My name is Bryan Vielhauer, and I proudly serve as the President and CEO of Decal Impressions, a print-service-provider based in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2001, I took over from a father and son team that had collapsed a successful 30-year-old business; through a focus on providing the best customer service and investments in cutting edge technology I was able to build up Decal Impressions into a successful organization that services customers internationally.
Beyond my role at Decal Impressions, I also serve as the owner and CEO of Magnetic Marketing Solutions, a dynamic brand management company with diverse real estate and food and beverage ventures. This diversification has been instrumental in fostering sustained growth and success in my professional endeavors.
In addition to my professional pursuits, I’m deeply committed to giving back to my community. I’ve had the privilege of serving on the boards of esteemed organizations such as The Cincinnati Athletic Club, the Rotary Club of Cincinnati, and Holy Trinity Mission Council. I am also an enthusiast of historic automobiles, finding joy in collecting and restoring these timeless treasures. Above all, my greatest source of fulfillment comes from cherished moments spent with my family, including my amazing wife of 19 years and four wonderful nieces.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Over the years, I have gathered MANY stories about resilience, however one story comes to mind. When I took over Decal Impressions in 2001, we had to work through a lot of issues including equipment, inexperience, a very tight budget, and our location. At the time, our print shop was in Cincinnati’s historic Over-The-Rhine (OTR) neighborhood. For decades, the area had fallen into hard times, and was home to crime, derelict buildings, and more. Despite its many challenges, I considered OTR a diamond in the rough, and I was thrilled to be a part of this community. I worked seven days a week for two years and loved every second. I met other like-minded folks in the community, who were eager to help preserve and rebuild OTR. It was a very special time personally, knowing that I was not only helping to save a brand and company, but also helping to rebuild our community in the process.
One bright spring morning I rounded the corner to our parking area and saw a massive amount of glass and wood strewn across the street. I was shocked! Then my heart sank as I realized that the glass and wood was from every single window in my building. As I had just recently taken over the business, it was crushing. I suddenly had no windows on my building, and no money to make the repairs. Knowing there was only one option, I got with my small team and called some friends in the community. We were able to clean up the damage, board up the windows, and get back to work so that we could continue to provide for our customers.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Our manufacturing process(es) have been developed and adapted over the years. Every job is different depending on the product, equipment, materials, and needs of the customer. As every organization is a little different, we took the time to make sure our process was customer focused. We work closely with our customers to understand their needs, and from there recommend materials, sizes, etc.
