We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rebecca Corvin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rebecca below.
Rebecca, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
When I first become a mother, I felt as though I was faced with having to choose between myself, my career, my spouse, and my children. In what should have been the most beautiful moments of my life, I was experiencing defeat and hopelessness, struggling with postpartum depression and anxiety, and trying to navigate motherhood. The biggest risk I have ever taken was to fully rely on God.
I remember when my children were very young, I was a new mother, but I still had big dreams. No one around me understood. My decision to pursue the desires that God put on my heart, and the person He made me to be confused the people around me, separated me from those who did not understand, and set me on a path to find “my people” and to rediscover myself.
To some people reading, this may not be considered risky. But I dare you to look around.
How many people do you know personally who are living their most authentic lives? Being their truest selves? Spending their days creating a happy, healthy, beautiful life and supporting you to do the same?
Where I once had goals that were materialistic and worldly, I now realize that God has called me to help others experience life more fully, more beautifully, simply. It is now my mission to help others rediscover who they are so that they can redefine their life in a way that is alignment with what they need most in order to become actually who they are potentially.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
The Lady Bec brand originally began in 2015 when I had my first child. I felt lonely and misunderstood and wanted to share in the experience of motherhood with other new moms. So, I started getting local mothers and their children together so that we could support each other. After several years, these informal meetings turned into more official ones that regularly occurred in local businesses in my hometown until I had an opportunity to lease a space with a partner. There, we referred to these meetings as The Village, which ended up being the fertile soil for some miraculous growth for many of the women in our area. Today, I am now releasing regular podcast episodes on The Credible Sources Podcast, featuring some of the most inspirational and resilient people I know. I also have an active and growing private Facebook group, endearingly titled The Village of Virtue and Victory, with a nod of honor to our Village Meetings and the woman referred to in Proverbs 31. I am also working on a book, due to publish with StoryBuilders Press in the summer of 2024. Lastly, I am hosting personal development events, working on an online university that focuses on balancing all the most important things in life, while still enjoying them and am available for private sessions on a limited basis.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I think this question is so important and I am happy to share some of the most pivotal leaders who have influenced my journey. I will first mention Gabrielle Bernstein. I was first introduced to Gabby’s work through a friend and was lucky enough to find her when she was still having intimate in-person events. Gabby’s way of speaking, writing, and connecting with her audience inspired me in a way that built my confidence to know that I could do the same. I attended her Level 1 and 2 Masterclasses, as well as her Best Seller Masterclass, and learned so much about how I’d want to structure my business moving forward. What she taught us also helped me to look within and begin healing parts of myself that were tucked away.
The next person I’ll mention is Lewis Howes. I had the opportunity to visit with Lewis, his team, and an intimate group of entrepreneurs in Los Angeles in April 2023 for Lewis’s book launch for his most recent book, The Greatness Mindset. It was there that I met some incredible people, who have become dear friends. Lewis’s podcast, The School of Greatness has over 1500 episodes, each jam-packed full of applicable and interesting information. There really is something for everyone and I’m so thankful that he and his team continue to focus on quality and impact.
I also want to mention Steven Furtick. The growth and influence that Steven’s messages have had on my life are so meaningful. I’m grateful that Steven and Holly anchored in to the calling that was put on their family and persevered to allow Elevation Church to unfold. The church, the Elevation Worship band, and the people I have met through the Elevation community have left such an imprint on my soul, one that I carry with me, that I strive to maintain and share with others.
There are so many others I’d love to mention here.
Without going into too much detail, I’ll also have to say that Abraham Maslow, Jim Carrey, Wayne Dyer, and Jim Rohn are three others that have drastically challenged my ways of being and thinking and have contributed to my thought processes and perspectives on my life and my businesses.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson that I have had to unlearn was that in order to be happy or successful, I will always have to do and be more. What I’m referring to is the measurement of my character, of who I am as a person, of who I am as a human on this earth. For years, I was stuck in a prison where I felt like I needed to change parts of my authentic self in order to fit in, be better, or become more.
Now, I will be the first to say that we will need to take action, execute our plans, adjust and pivot or behaviors and habits, in order to achieve different results. But I believe that we must rediscover who we are at our core, expose those parts of us, embrace those parts of us, and then we will be given the tools to work and move forward.
Unfortunately, many of us feel like the problem is who we are at our core – but that just isn’t true. I really do believe that we all, innately, are beautiful – that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and it is the lies that society tells us that contribute to us wearing masks, pretending to be someone we are not, which ultimately leads to unhappiness and unfulfillment.
When we unlearn that, when we remove that illusion from our reality and understand that our only job here is to be the best version of ourselves, we can come into relationship with the person God intended us to be and finally feel and know that we are enough.
