We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Josh Anderson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Josh below.
Hi Josh, thanks for joining us today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
Building a business definitely takes a lot of time and patience. When we first opened in 2004, there were a lot of long days, late nights, and weekends to make sure we met customer’s needs. This didn’t change very quickly either. It took a lot of time to get past. As we grew, we added employees when needed. Sometimes we had to hold out longer than we wanted because it didn’t make financial sense. We took risks that we felt were good for the company both short term and long term. There were also times that I personally didn’t take a paycheck to make sure things stayed on track. It’s one of the many unforeseen obstacles that you have to deal with as a business owner that test you at every turn. You learn a lot in those times, and it helps to build you in to a better leader. As we’ve grown and became more established, we’ve trimmed our products and services to the things that we are really good at. These core services work the best for us as a company, and are the most profitable. In turn, this has made the business more stable for customers, employees and ownership.

Josh, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always been a creative person, and interested in art and design. When I was in school, I took every art class available. While in high school, I started working at a screen printing company which led to being an artist. After high school, I decided to change gears and pursue a telecommunications degree. When I was attending college, I switched over to the vinyl graphics side of the printing business. After working in this for a while I decided I really liked it and wanted to pursue it even further. This lead to opening my own business.
When the business first opened, it was pretty simple. As it grew, we added more equipment and technology which helped transform it into what it has become today. Our primary focus is vinyl graphics. This includes vehicle wraps, fleet graphics, walls wraps, window graphics and floor graphics. When customers come to us, they want to make their business or brand stand out and look professional. During the process of creating and producing their graphics, we pay close attention to the details. This includes thinking ahead to the finished product and figuring out how to provide the best end result while also being efficient with our time and materials.
It’s always exciting to see wraps and graphics come to life. In the end, we’re actually helping business owners with increasing brand awareness and sales. This has a direct affect on their business’ success and the livelihood of their employees.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Our reputation is built on a few very simple principals. We do what we tell the customer we’re going to do. We do the job when we tell them we’re going to do it. And we provide the quality of product that we say we’re going to provide. If there are any problems, we fix it.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes! Three books made a huge difference in how we operate.
Good to Great by Jim Collins
Scaling Up by Verne Harnish
Profit First by Mike Michalowicz (this author has several other books that are also really good)
