We were lucky to catch up with Miles Perry recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Miles , thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
As an artist, I have always gravitated towards self-expression. Art is intertwined with life and vice versa. Through art, I am able to explore personalities, styles, views, thoughts, & dreams. I knew from a very young age, I wanted to be an artist. We are all artists, life itself is an art form and I knew if I could make a living, expressing myself, freely & fully… Then I will be happy.

Miles , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
this is an original work of art ™ is about expression of self.
We are all unique & original.
It is not about being a brand for me, it is about making a statement. We are all equal.
No-one is better than you and no one is less than you.
At the core of what I do, it is to stay true to who I am…
I started as a professional artist in 2012. I painted & silk-screened art on burlap. A unique medium and look that had a successful response right from the beginning. I partnered with companies such as, Nordstrom, West Elm, Bed. Bath & Beyond. I am immensely grateful for that journey, but after 9 years I decided to shift focus. I was making art for commerce. Art for corporations. Art for fast retail. It was quick, it was safe, & it started to feel redundant.
this is an original work of art ™ is my brain child… Stay true to yourself, your voice, and your heart.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Support artists while they are young, growing & exploring their voice. Don’t just support the dead artists & famous artists. Support Black artists, women artists, LGBTQIA artists, indigenous artists, immigrant artists, artists who stand for change, for equality, for climate change and buy what you can from them. Follow them on socials and engage with their content.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being able to do what I love…. Traveling the world and meeting new people, exploring different cultures and seeing my artworks connect with so many different people.
