We were lucky to catch up with Anntonette Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Anntonette, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Any thoughts around creating more inclusive workplaces?
The beauty industry for a long time has been an industry of inclusivity and diversity. However, ten years ago when I entered the niche brow industry I would often hear that I swas first person of color or specfically black person they had seen work in the industry. When I opened my business in 2015. I would not post my face on social media or marketing matrials in hopes that people would come to see me and my talent before they could judge. I also noticed that my clientele lacked diversity and opent times POC were more comfortable continuig to go to nail and hair salons and threading kiosks for their brow services. I wanted to create a comfortable enviornement where ethicity was not associated with talent.
So I began to include my picture in post and marketing. I also began posting a variety of brow pictures with clients of diffrent ethnic background. As my reviews and referrals grew my studio enviorment reflected the diversity I did not see in my eary days as a brow artist.
Now inclusivity and diversity is not an issue and their artist of all backgrounds. It’s beautiful to see.
Anntonette, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Tonie Jones and I am the SHE-O of The Brow Snob and Co located in Denver, CO. We’re one of the leading threading studios in Denver. We also offer wax, tiniting, lashes and permenant makeup services. I think what sets us apart is our approach to brow and lashes services. We want clients to enjoy their time with us, have an active decision makeing role in their beauty treaments mixed with a lot of fun and comm]unity. You might come for a brow shaping but leave with smile from good conversation. impromptu advice or some tv shows recommendations. We try to feed the whole person during your time with us even if it’s just 15 mins. I am most proud of The Brow Snob and Co. brand as a whole. It’s consistent. If you visit our website and or social media page you get a great impression of what you will encounter at the actual studio.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
A couple of years into my brow career before I opened my business. I was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer, I worked the best I could while going through treatment. But, eventually I stopped working to focus on my healing. During that year I began to lay the mental groud work for The Brow Snob. Creating my business plan, taking small business bootcamp class. It helped me to have that goal to focus on. One year after chemo and my double masectomy I opened The Brow Snob in this little tiny room in the back of salon in . Cherry Creek, I did not have one single client. But, I kept at it. On the days my health wsn’t the greatest or my strength I could cater my schedule to my physical needs. On the days my emotional health struggled my growing clientele really got me through. Two years later I moved to a bigger salon suite with so many clients I was booked weeks in advance. Two years from that an even bigger suite in Lowry where we rebounded amazingly from the hit of COVID.
January 2022 we moved into our first storefront and it’s been a journey of another kind. I’m still battling my health. In August 2021 I had a cancer reoccurance thst put me back in treatment . But, I’m still here and The Brow Snob and Co is still growing snd I am grateful.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
