We were lucky to catch up with Shellz Da don recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shellz , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
So when i was about 15 i dropped my first mixtape it was called king of e.n.y thats east new york for short i already knew what i had on my hands and wanted people to take the music i worked so hard on perfecting serious so me and my mother would ride around blasting it loud to get people’s attention then whoever was interested would come to the car and we sold them the mixtape for 5 dollars that was people coming back to back it was crazy since then ive been selling music like candy
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For those who dont know me i go by shellz or shellz da don i am an artist and also i own my own lable called overdose 730 i built this from the ground up because people dont focus on talent today its all about the popularity and there isn’t alot of good music you can relate to from today’s artist i actually jump in the field and find the artists that have that talent thats so hard to find today i want my label to be different from others as so with my music with time dedication drive and hard work nothing is impossible and i want to show the people who feel like they are stuck its always another way out i’ll even give an opportunity if need be
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The best part of being a artist is always that after effect when you drop a new project its like you get that rush seeing your fans react with the fire emojis or picking a favorite song its crazy when you actually get messages from people you dont know who just appreciate you from the music you make the hype of hearing a song in somebodys story or seeing people quote lyrics that all came from you oh my its amazing!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
There are no days off and nothing is ever personal its all business in this industry there are alot of sleepless nights and stressful days but the rewards from the work you put it will tell you everything you need to know so dont just start something and stop then start again time will pass you and you will look up and every opportunity you could of had will have been placed in front of somebody else when it could of been you there will always be trial and error but as long as you stay focused and keep going nobody can tell you nothing you will always get that win even after all of the lz you take take that risk if you have to make sure you have a good team with you and you will get wherever you want to go
