We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nicholas Jimenez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nicholas, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I have been able to earn a full time living teaching private piano lessons, playing weekly at a church for the church service, and playing local gigs such as keyboardist for funerals, weddings, parties, events, and classic bar rock band gigs. Day one was exciting yet frightening. It took a long time to become a good piano teacher, in the beginning I was doing so many things wrong, yet I was lucky to have really great students that helped me grow. Playing my first gigs at funerals and weddings were also daunting too, and it’s taken many years to feel comfortable on stage and not nervous playing for these events with high expectations, because I simply cannot mess up. These are the major steps and milestones, me taking these difficult jobs and gigs which really challenged me and made me practice super hard so I could play the music correctly. When someone pays you to play their wedding, you have to be perfect, because imagine a wrong note at someone’s most special day. So to this day I support myself by teaching privately, and playing gigs when the opportunities present themselves. I think I could have sped up the process by taking better care of my health. I struggled with mental health and physical problems for years, because I had so many bad habits, that truly prevented me from reaching my full potential at that time. Had I had access to the health tools I have now, which I learned in the Inner Engineering Program from Isha Foundation, such as Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya from Sadguru, I definitely would have had more success.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

to me
I got into my discipline when I was 12 when I started learning piano and ever since then I was in love with music not just playing music but also composing it and I also made films in high school and I would also make the music to these films currently I am working on a couple of scores for some films, and my friends are making and I have done so in the past as well I am able to compose pretty much any type of music mainly I love composing piano music and I’m really looking for people who want unique piano music in their videos because I can provide that for them. I can also provide other music not just piano music, synthesizer and unique sounding music if that’s your request, I recently put out an album on Spotify that combines all of these different sounds piano, synthesizer, and various other instruments and I’m very proud of this album because it took me a long time to finish partly due to creative block and I’m really just trying to get known for my composing I have a lot of songs and ideas that I’ve made that I think if people heard it, it could touch them deeply and I want to play perform and share my art with as many people as possible because I know that when I do it touches them and that’s the most fulfilling part about my work Also within my piano, teaching being able to have a student successfully play something after working diligently on, it is very satisfying. I love to compose music. I’m great at it, and I would love it if more filmmakers would reach out to me because I can provide them with excellent music, and also more people on Spotify to listen to my songs and my upcoming piano solo album.
My dream is to perform on stage my own compositions to the world! and to have millions of fans!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is seeing how my art touches people in their hearts. My favorite thing to do is play for someone and watch how they are affected. I believe I have many unique feelings to share with other people, and that when I can share them at the perfect time, it can change someone’s life for the better.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Sadhguru is an Indian Yopi and mystic, and his insights on how to gain success are profound and yet simple. He basically pushes the premise that if you do not enhance your energies, mind, and intellect, then what you desire can never come to fruition. Is it only after you gain mastery over your mind energies emotion and body, that what you want can manifest.
