We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lisa Michiko Vominh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below
Lisa, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
At Postpartum Panty Party, we want to bring a little comfort and joy to all mamas. We provide comfortable, functional, and fun panties that support mamas healing from childbirth. No matter if it’s their first, second or last baby, our mission is to celebrate and uplift all mamas for their sacrifice in creating a brand new life.
This is a personal mission for me because I am a mom of 3 young kids. I remember when I gave birth to my first baby, I had no idea what to expect after hours of labor. The term perineal tear was something I had never heard of; how bad could it be right? Little did I know a peri bottle would become my best friend for the next few weeks. Returning home from the hospital with giant pads and disposable mesh undies along with a beautiful newborn was a daunting experience. Postpartum is one of the most vulnerable times in a woman’s life. I want mamas to wear our panties and feel proud and empowered by the fact that they just brought a new human into the world.
“In giving birth to our babies, we may find that we give birth to new possibilities within ourselves.” – Myla Kabat-Zinn

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well, first and foremost I am a mom of 3 wonderful little humans. Prior to having kids, I worked in the advertising industry for over 15 years, at agencies big and small like TBWA Chiat Day, McCann, HAVAS and most recently Guru. My priorities shifted once I had kids, as I no longer cared about climbing the corporate ladder or being part of “hustle” culture. My focus shifted to my family, pouring my time and energy into raising happy and healthy children. A desire to connect with other moms also became a priority, trying to find a way to help them through the challenges of postpartum.
With this new outlook, my desire to open a business and my background in marketing: I founded Postpartum Panty Party. My business idea came to me one night as I was reminiscing about the first few days with a newborn and how I was sent home in basically what felt like adult diapers. After running out of those diapers and not being able to fit into my pre-pregnancy panties, I was reduced to wearing the ugliest but comfortable granny panties. I believe mamas who just created a new human deserve so much more! They deserve panties that are super comfortable, that are cute and stylish but most importantly brighten their days with fun, encouraging statements that resonate with them. This is what sets our panties apart from other postpartum panties on the market, our panties provide comfort and support all while uplifting mamas’ spirits during their postpartum journey.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes there are two that come to my mind that have provided me with valuable insights and meaningful inspiration. They both have positively steered my path into entrepreneurship.
The first is a book called “The Family First Entrepreneur” written by Steve Chou. Steve launched his first e-commerce business back in 2007 and has been helping others who are eager to enter the world of entrepreneurship. Besides his book, he also has a blog and podcast called My Wife Quit Her Job. Steve is down-to-earth and has a wealth of knowledge backed by experience. In fact, when I first decided to take on the overwhelming task of opening my own business, I took a couple of his online workshops that covered topics related to sourcing products and working with overseas manufacturers. It was tremendously helpful when trying to figure out where to start.
The second inspirational resource was Sara Blakely “Teaches Self-Made Entrepreneurship” Master Class video series. I found Sara to be super relatable, passionate, and all-around inspiring. Her journey to creating Spanx, as she stated, was an emotional rollercoaster of highs and lows, which I felt along my way to launching Postpartum Panty Party. Her words of wisdom based on 20 years of experience, truly encouraged me to keep going, keep iterating and manifesting my dreams of building a successful business. I hope one day I will have the opportunity to meet Sara and thank her.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2022 I decided it was time for me to get back into the working world, after having 3 kids and being a stay-at-home mom (SAHM) for 6 years. I found a part-time, Account Manager position at a small, fully remote ad agency. It took a few months to shift my daily routine from SAHM to working mom, but I was glad to be back in the workforce. After helping the agency on board new clients, the stress of balancing being a full-time mom and a diligent Account Manager started to take a toll on me and my family. I was less present around my kids and exponentially more stressed. I knew I had to make a change when my daughter came to me one day and said “Mommy, you are always so stressed and have very little time for us.” Little did I know that that one conversation with my daughter would be the turning point for me to realize, working in advertising no longer suited my family first focus which ultimately led me to quit my job and birth my 4th baby, Postpartum Panty Party.
