We were lucky to catch up with Lupe Chihuahua recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lupe, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Being in the Hair industry has shown me a lot when it came to learning my craft. I learned to do what I do because of the ongoing education classes I can be a part of taking and meeting wonderful people within the industry hearing their stories. As well as having wonderful co-workers and friends that are willing to share their knowledge. If I knew what I knew now, i still believe I would’ve taken my time with my learning process. I only say that because I love taking the time to perfect anything new I learn to make sure I give it my all when doing services. Creativity is the most essential skill in my opinion. As a Hairstylist, It can be helpful to study current fashion trends and be willing to experiment with new hair styles. I think Time was the biggest obstacle when it came to learning more. Having more time would give me the access to have more knowledge flowing through my head when i’m being creative behind the chair.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
First and foremost, I would like to thanks CanvasRebel for letting me share my story. I got into this industry because my aunt does hair in California and has been an inspiration when it came to me deciding to do this. I provide a variety of services from cuts, color, hair lightening, keratin, blowouts, and of course men cuts. What sets me apart from others in my observation is the time I take with my clients during consultation. Being upfront and honest has always been my motto when doing anyones hair. I love to build hair plans from my clients as well as letting them know what they can achieve within their budget as well. Being honest with my clients builds a certain relationship with them that makes them comfortable coming to me knowing im doing the best for them. Im most proud of being able to be apart of events within my industry to inspire others and make them feel amazing about themselves. The main thing i want everyone to know about me as an individual is that i will always want them to leave feeling beautiful and knowing they got the most out of their services.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being seen and acknowledged for my accomplishments is the most rewarding aspect of being an artist. The feeling of knowing that everything i’ve done to gain my knowledge and work my way up in the industry is an accomplishment.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My current goal is to level up within my salon at Ulta to then be on the Design team to then potentially Educator. Wanting this has driven my passion even more with wanting to be part of anything that i can to show my creativity. This includes going to Beauty Schools and talking about my journey and sharing my knowledge onto others. My passion alone has given me the hunger to learn more to succeed.
