Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jamie Paine. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jamie, appreciate you joining us today. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
Vacations are essential for you and your family. While building your brand and business is also important, it is of vital importance that you do not forget those who matter most to you. Taking a vacation just requires lots of planning. You must plan to have coverage so that you do not waste your few vacations still working and not investing in your family.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I wanted to be a lawyer to help people as cliche as that is. I work with families to help them during one of the most stressful and emotional times in their lives. From a legal standpoint I navigate the court system for them and from an emotional standpoint I help them figure out the most productive ways to move forward that is best for them and their family. I am proud of the work that I do and the families that I have been able to serve thus far. I am proud of our firm’s team mentality as it provides the best support to our clients.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I leaned in to be being me and no one else. Often in the law we see others and want to “be like them.” While it is great to learn from mentors and look up to other colleagues, you have to forge your own path and in the ways, you are passionate about, otherwise burnout is real. I created my own reputation by doing things differently with my approach to managing clients and giving them all the facts whether they like to hear them or not. My clients often appreciate my thoughts even when they do not want to hear them because it only helps them later on.
Any advice for managing a team?
Be vulnerable and own your own mistakes. When managing people, it is important to maintain professionalism, but you can also be vulnerable with them to show them that we all make mistakes and learning from them is key.
