Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angela Dawson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Angela, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I’ll always appreciate my parents for allowing me to be open and express my creativity. They always encouraged me to try new things whether it was activities, hobbies, fashion trends, or my way of thinking. I’m the only child and my parents divorced when I was young so my mother’s impact was very prevalent on me growing up because she was all that I looked up to, I had a perfect example in a household of the woman I aspired to be. I have so many stories but my favorite one is in regards to how I started my business. As we know the saying “mothers know best”, well my mom definitely knew that Xavier University of Louisiana was not the best option for me however she still felt in her spirit that it was meant for me to have that experience so she was on board with me going in the fall of 2018. Fast forward 2 years later; the pandemic hit, I was suffering from depression and anxiety, and I was severely homesick, but I was randomly researching herbs that were native to the area and stumbled across the art of creating my oil infusion that cured a yeast infection I had the time. (Which turns out I got from all the stress, medication, and changes I was enduring at the time.) I’ve always been into natural remedies but this was the first time I’ve made something myself so I was proud of myself and thus started my journey of entrepreneurship. I wanted to share my love of learning the knowledge as I go and have others watch me as I create with whatever herbs came to mind. Now as of 2024 I am a college graduate and will be a business owner for 4 years I believe I wouldn’t have made it this far if I didn’t stumble across that one book in 2020. It genuinely makes me happy and I believe my business saved me!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started my craft when I saw women wanting to try natural remedies or alternatives for medicine. If you already think about it we all grew up drinking tea so we already know herbs work the power of herbs. Plus I was living in New Orleans at the time and if you didn’t know, herbs are very prevalent in spirituality which was all around me throughout the city. I have healed women who had fibroids, HSV2, miscarriages, irregular cycles, infections, and more. I think what sets me apart from the others is the approach I take with my content, I’m young so a lot of people don’t expect me to talk about the topics that I talk about and I think it shocks them when they see how knowledgeable I am in the topics that interests me and how many people I help. As of now, I’m most proud of expanding my business into hosting holistic wellness retreats both domestically and internationally and also being able to have a consistent customer base because they are what keeps my drive going to create. I want my potential customers to know that there are a lot of things in store for this year – I have an infused brand and merchandise coming soon so I’m excited to share that passion.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
To be a good herbalist the most important thing you have to know how to do is to connect with people on a different level. You have to talk about topics that they usually don’t talk about with strangers but you must know every single detail to know how the herb would react with the body. I also think it is helpful to go out in the field and community to speak with local farmers gardeners and other herbalists to see what connections can be made.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele was word of mouth so that’s why I appreciate when people leave reviews or tell me that they put somebody on to my products. I also use a lot of email marketing when I need to retain customers’ information for future reference regarding restocks, new releases, or campaigns. It also helps to have a presence in your community and on social media.
