We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aaliyah Hassan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Aaliyah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
As a bussiness owner im extremely happy and love what I do. Im literally excited everytime anyone chooses to book with me it makes me want to do my very best to satisfy my client with achieving their hair goals. Im constantly trying to learn new styles and techniques and perfect them !
Aaliyah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a hairstylist/ hair braider who prodes myself on delivering quality work and hair care to anyone who sits in my chair. I respect and want to meet all my clients needs and expectations. All the while giving them a pleasant an enjoyable experience..
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been PRACTICE and Word of Mouth! Ive had to challenge myself countless times to get better and better and it never stops im constantly critiquing my work and trying my best everytime.
Ive been doing hair over 7 years in Los Angeles and the clientale Ive built has my back and constantly and always highly recommends me to others. Im extremely blessed and don’t take it lightly. I prayed for this and constantly remind myself of that whenever im overwhelmed or burnt out. It reminds me that this wasnt given to me but was earned by from sleepless nights and hurtful days that pushed me to pursue my dream .
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The biggest lesson Ive had to unlearn is everything I do can be perfect . It’s simply not true and the thought crippled me from trying and that is something I could no longer believe on my journey. I wantee to always to be perfect and some styles and some hair wont be and its ok but I can always improve and make it better as long as I give my best and try!
