We were lucky to catch up with Tabatha Lumley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tabatha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.
Pantheon Transportation is a regional medical transportation company that provides patients who have difficulties with transportation to and from medical appointments. For many children and families, if it wasn’t for medical transportation they would not make it to their appointments which could lead to many possible health scares. From my observation the majority of the population we serve are African American and they receive government assistance as it is a requirement that you have medicaid.
Tabatha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Tabatha Lumley, the founder and CEO of Pantheon Transportation, a NY-based medical transportation company that provides underprivileged families with transportation to and from medical appointments. I also lead Dajior Clothing, a celebrity-endorsed, luxury streetwear brand that provides high-quality pieces to men, women and children worldwide.
A true island girl, I grew up in the Cassava Piece (Gullyside) neighborhood in Kingston, Jamaica. Though proud of where I’m from, I’ll be the first to admit that life in Gullyside came with its own set of struggles. Being raised in poverty, I witnessed first hand how hard my father worked to take care of our family, and it was at a young age that I vowed to create a better life for myself and for those around me.
After earning a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from SUNY Buffalo and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Buffalo, I stayed true to the promise I made to myself and launched Pantheon Transportation after noticing a lack of reliable transportation services in my community which lead to more CPS calls being made about medical neglect. I also observed that due to the lack of transportation less individuals who attend their medical appointments.Created in 2019, Pantheon Transportation has grown rapidly and now serves more than 700 patients each month.
I am also the mastermind and lead designer behind Dajior Clothing, a brand inspired by my first-born child, Dajior. Launched in 2019, Dajior Clothing was created to remind dreamers that regardless of their past, they are in control of their future as long as they believe in their greatness and do the work. I recently launched The Tabatha R.Lumley Foundation, our mission is to empower our communities by eradicating poverty, increase educational opportunities and mental heath awareness.
When I’m not masterminding and being a CEO, I enjoy nurturing and teaching my three sons.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategies for growing our clientele is great customer support. Once you put the people first and treat them with respect by listening to their concerns then provide some type of support or comfortability in your response that within itself will keep them attracted to you business. They will go further and spread the word about the type of service they receive and other will support you. People love to feel appreciated and will go where their are treated well.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think that our quality of service and knowing our client’s is what helped us build our reputation within our market. Our driver are also very professional and resourceful. Our vehicles are kept clean and we also ask clients for feedback on the service we provided. Having a good relationship with the case worker/managers and or social worker at different medical facilities has also been a big contributor to us growing.
