We were lucky to catch up with Taya Hawkins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Taya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I am decently happy as a business owner. I don’t feel like I am where I want to be in my business but I know I will get there. I don’t have thoughts about what it’s like to work a regular job because I’ve been there before. Sometimes I might think having a job is better because you have scheduled pay but i’d rather stick to my business because there’s so many other better perks to it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a self taught nail tech, an entrepreneur. I also own my own online nail supply. I got into the industry by taking a step forward into a form of art I love. I started my job while still working at a 9-5, quit 5 months after I practiced my craft due to a car accident & proceeded into doing nails. It took a while to get to where I am not and I am not even where I want to be. I’d like my audience to know that I am THEE NAIL TECH for YOU! Believe it or not!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I had the biggest paycheck ever at my last job, went to the nail supply and spent the whole thing! Walked out with like $40 and a dream!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
It’s funny because I’ve gotten such a large following just because of who I am. I’ve been myself since the jump and haven’t changed a bit!
